Job Description

A Housekeeping Supervisor in a mall plays a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and a pleasant environment for both customers and staff. The responsibilities can be broad and varied, encompassing a range of tasks to ensure the mall's interior and exterior areas are well-kept at all times.

Key Roles and Responsibilities of a Housekeeping Supervisor

• Supervision of Housekeeping Staff:
• Oversee the day-to-day activities of housekeeping personnel, including cleaners, janitors, and other support staff.
• Assign tasks to staff based on priority and mall requirements (e.g., cleaning schedules, maintenance, special events).
• Monitor and manage staff performance, providing guidance and feedback when necessary.
• Ensure that staff follows proper cleaning protocols, safety guidelines, and the mall's operational standards.
• Cleaning and Maintenance Coordination:
• Ensure that common areas, corridors, restrooms, escalators, elevators and other mall facilities are kept clean and presentable.
• Ensure the proper cleanliness of parking areas, sidewalks, and external spaces around the mall.
• Supervise specialized cleaning activities, such as carpet cleaning, window washing, and deep cleaning in certain areas.
• Ensure that cleaning supplies and equipment are well-stocked and maintained.
• Coordinate routine and emergency cleaning in the event of spills, accidents, or special situations (e.g., after events).
• Inventory Management:
• Keep track of housekeeping supplies such as cleaning chemicals, mops, vacuums, disinfectants, and other equipment.
• Ensure that all cleaning materials are stored safely and are within their use-by dates.
• Safety and Hygiene Compliance:
• Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, particularly in relation to cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation.
• Ensure that all cleaning agents are used in accordance with their safety guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
• Conduct regular safety audits of the mall to ensure compliance with local regulations regarding cleanliness and hygiene standards.
• Report any safety hazards (such as wet floors, broken equipment, etc.) to the appropriate authorities for prompt action.
• Customer and Tenant Relations:
• Act as a point of contact for mall tenants and customers regarding housekeeping issues, including complaints or requests for special cleaning services.
• Respond to customer feedback regarding cleanliness in a prompt and professional manner.
• Maintain good communication with mall management and retail tenants to understand specific cleaning needs or concerns.
• Training and Development:
• Train new housekeeping staff on procedures, safety protocols, and expectations.
• Organize ongoing training programs to keep staff updated on best practices for cleaning and maintenance, as well as customer service.
• Ensure that staff members are familiar with mall policies, emergency procedures, and general operational practices.
• Schedule Management:
• Create and maintain housekeeping schedules to ensure consistent cleaning during operational hours, as well as after-hours deep cleaning if needed.
• Plan for seasonal cleaning or special events, which may require additional staffing or more intensive cleaning efforts.
• Quality Control:
• Conduct routine inspections to assess the quality of work performed by the housekeeping team and ensure that cleaning standards are consistently met.
• Address any issues or deficiencies in cleanliness promptly and take corrective actions where necessary.
• Conduct periodic audits of the housekeeping team's performance, and report any non-compliance or concerns to mall management.
• Sustainability and Environmental Practices:
• Promote and implement environmentally friendly cleaning practices (e.g., using non-toxic cleaning agents, reducing water waste).
• Ensure the proper disposal of waste, including recyclables, general waste, and hazardous materials, in compliance with environmental regulations.
• Emergency and Special Event Cleaning:
• Ensure that the mall is prepared for large crowds, such as during sales events or festivals, by scheduling extra cleaning staff during peak hours.
• Oversee emergency cleaning during unexpected situations (e.g., spills, accidents) to ensure the mall's environment remains safe and appealing.

Skills

• Organizational Skills: Ability to manage schedules, inventories, and staff assignments efficiently.
• Knowledge of Cleaning Equipment: Understanding of cleaning tools, machinery, and cleaning chemicals.
• Communication Skills: Ability to interact professionally with staff, tenants, and customers.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to address issues quickly and find solutions to cleaning or maintenance problems.

Education

Bachelor's in Hotel Management(preferred)

Experience

candidates should have at least 2-3 years of experience working in housekeeping or janitorial services. Experience working in large facilities like malls, hotels, or hospitals is highly preferred.

If the candidate has experience managing cleaning or maintenance staff in a commercial environment (like an office building or retail space), this is an added advantage.
