Key Responsibilities:Guest Reception:

  • Greet and welcome guests as they enter the restaurant in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Escort guests to their tables and offer menu options or special recommendations when appropriate.
  • Ensure guests feel comfortable and valued from the moment they walk in.
Managing Reservations:
  • Answer phone calls to take reservations and provide information about the restaurant's offerings.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date reservation book or system to ensure efficient seating arrangements.
  • Manage walk-in guests and ensure there are minimal wait times by coordinating seating.
Seating and Table Management:
  • Coordinate with waitstaff to ensure guests are seated promptly and comfortably.
  • Manage table assignments, ensuring that each section is filled appropriately to maintain a smooth flow of service.
  • Ensure tables are set up properly with the correct number of chairs, utensils, and napkins.
Guest Communication:
  • Inform guests about expected wait times and provide updates if there are delays.
  • Address any special requests or requirements from guests, such as dietary preferences or seating arrangements.
  • Handle guest complaints or concerns in a calm, professional manner and escalate issues to management when needed.
Maintain a Welcoming Environment:
  • Keep the entrance and waiting area clean and organized, ensuring it is free from clutter and looks inviting.
  • Assist with light cleaning duties, such as wiping down menus, countertops, or resetting waiting areas.
Assisting Other Staff:
  • Work with servers, managers, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations and efficient service.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members to ensure that guest needs are met promptly.
  • Assist with basic food and beverage service tasks when needed, such as delivering water or condiments to tables.
Handling Guest Departures:
  • Thank guests for visiting the restaurant as they leave and invite them to return in the future.
  • Encourage guest feedback on their experience, helping to ensure continuous improvement in service quality.
Maintaining the Waiting List:
  • Keep track of guests waiting for a table and provide accurate wait-time estimates.
  • Ensure that the guest seating chart is organized and up-to-date to avoid confusion or errors in table assignments.
Other Administrative Duties:
  • Maintain the cleanliness and order of the hostess stand and the surrounding area.
  • Assist with preparing or organizing menus or promotional materials.
  • Handle cash or process payments when needed, following restaurant procedures.
