Job Summary:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Horticulturist to oversee the planning, cultivation, and maintenance of plants, gardens, and landscaped areas within our organization. The ideal candidate will have expertise in plant science, sustainable gardening practices, and landscape management. This role involves enhancing and preserving green spaces, designing horticultural displays, and supporting environmental conservation efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plant Cultivation and Care:
• Select, plant, and maintain a wide variety of plant species, including ornamental, edible, and native plants.
• Monitor and manage plant health, soil quality, and pest control, using sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
• Propagate plants through techniques such as seed sowing, grafting, and cutting to maintain healthy plant stock.
• Garden and Landscape Management:
• Design, implement, and maintain aesthetically pleasing and sustainable garden spaces, including lawns, beds, shrubs, and tree areas.
• Oversee landscape renovation projects, including seasonal planting and design adjustments to improve biodiversity and beauty.
• Manage irrigation systems and adjust watering schedules based on seasonal needs and water conservation principles.
• Environmental and Conservation Practices:
• Promote sustainable horticultural practices, including composting, mulching, and minimizing pesticide and chemical use.
• Collaborate on biodiversity projects and participate in conservation initiatives to protect native plant species and habitats.
• Educate the community on eco-friendly gardening techniques, promoting the benefits of green spaces for well-being and the environment.
• Data Collection and Documentation:
• Record and monitor plant growth, soil conditions, pest issues, and treatment applications.
• Maintain an organized database of plant species, garden layout plans, and landscape designs for future reference and reporting.
• Prepare and present monthly reports on horticultural activities, challenges, and results to management.
• Team Collaboration and Supervision:
• Work closely with groundskeepers, landscapers, and other staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
• Provide guidance and training to junior horticulture staff, interns, and volunteers on best practices in plant care.
• Coordinate with departments to plan seasonal displays, events, and community engagement initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Botany, Plant Science, or a related field.
• Proven experience in horticulture, gardening, landscaping, or plant science.
• Knowledge of plant care techniques, pest and disease control, soil science, and sustainable practices.
• Proficiency in landscape design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp) and/or horticultural management software is a plus.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Preferred Skills:

• Certification in sustainable gardening, landscape design, or similar areas.
• Experience with native plant species and habitat restoration.
• Familiarity with organic gardening and permaculture principles.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From ?20,000.00 per month
