Job description
To support the Head of Department in providing effective leadership and management of the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering. The Deputy Head of Department will be a member of the Department executive and as such will be required to take an active role in running the Department. This is a 3 years appointment from 1st March 2019 \xe2\x80\x93 28th February 2022.
Main Responsibilities
? To contribute to the formation of the strategy and plans at the Departmental Executive level.
? To contribute to the planning and managing of the Department\xe2\x80\x99s human, financial and physical resources with particular responsibility for the management and development of teaching laboratories.
? To oversee the mentoring and career development of academic staff, specifically ECRs and lecturers.
? To assist with the management of the Department\xe2\x80\x99s academic staff, including allocation of workloads, staff development and performance reviews, recruitment and selection, health and safety.
? To undertake additional responsibilities as periodically agreed with the Head of Department. Person specification
? Be familiar with, or have a willingness to learn, the administrative and management systems of the University.
? Have a personal track record of academic excellence in research, teaching and administration, and a willingness to contribute to the strategic development of the Department.
? Have demonstrated management and leadership qualities.
? To have a commitment to nurturing talent across all three job areas (teaching, research and administration).
? Demonstrated the ability to manage multiple administrative and management tasks and to deliver tasks according to process, including meeting deadlines.
? Capability to support the HoD, or independently, to manage difficult conflict or other challenging situations with staff and students in a prompt, sensitive and fair manner.
