Required Skills/Experience:

• B.S. or higher in Engineering required, prefer Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering; would consider candidates with a B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics with applicable experience in an automotive related software testing role.
• 3-5+ years' experience in embedded software validation.
• Experience with real-time hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test system hardware and software required. A high proficiency in setting up real-time simulations in one of the following environments:


# dSPACE ConfigurationDesk & ControlDesk

# NI VeriStand

• Understanding of CLIENT engine, powertrain, chassis, body, and suspension control systems.
• Experience with automated test development and object-oriented programming, with strong Python programming and debugging skills.
• Deep understanding of vehicle communication protocols required, CAN/J1939/UDS preferred.
• Extensive experience with Git version control system and the Bash shell.
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink.
• Must be able to troubleshoot test hardware and wire harnesses using scopes and multimeters.


Desired Skills/Experience:

• Experience with OBD2 (J1979; ASAM MCD3-D; ASAM ODX) highly desired.
• Real-time modeling experience using tools such as Simulink or Amesim; experience using the FMI the standard.
• Experience with ASAM XIL v2+ desired.
• Experience with ECU measurement and calibration desired (CCP/XCP; ASAM MCD3-MC).
• Basic CAD skills for both mechanical (Creo) and PCBs a plus, but not required.
• Experience integrating external APIs into a test automation framework.


Job summary:

In this role, the XIL Engineer (XE), will be responsible for the design, development, documentation, and support of XIL-based simulations (MIL, SIL, & HIL), test environments, and infrastructure used for embedded controls software development and validation.

• Your primary responsibility is to develop and deliver documented simulation and test environments used for use by the Validation Engineers (VE) in the validation of embedded controls systems.
• You will build and/or lead the development of required simulations, models, & configurations required to execute automated test cases using Polaris's test automation framework. This includes, but is not limited to, designing and maintaining wire harnesses and test benches; create communications and vehicle simulations; coordinating model development between internal teams and/or external vendors.
• You will have to diagnose and troubleshoot software, hardware, and wiring issues to verify the simulation's state of readiness. You will also be required to support the VE during their validation, as required, to ensure timely resolution of any simulation issues.
• You will support the development of software, libraries, & tools used in Polaris's test automation framework.
• You will support the long-term virtual vehicle development (VVD) strategic goals.


Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Work with validation engineers and systems engineers to deliver the necessary simulation environment for validation.
• Manage multiple schedules and projects simultaneously.
• Decompose vehicle controls and validation requirements into requirements for simulation, hardware, and test libraries.
• Deliver a verified simulation and test setup to the VE, including preparation for test automation and scripting.
• Contribute to long-term strategic goals in all tasks, big or small.


Additionally, you may:

• Be asked to take on VE responsibilities, when required or for training.
• Help to design new HIL systems or upgrades to support additional testing.
• Assist in the procurement of test equipment (e.g., talk to vendors, get quotes, etc.).
• Other duties as required.
