:Role:The role will be reporting to the Head- RBD, Retail.Business Context and OpportunitiesA global conglomerate, the Aditya Birla Group is in the League of Fortune 500. India's gems and jewellery market contributed around 7% to GDP and 14% to Indias total merchandize export in February21 with a market size was at US$ 78.50 billion in FY21. The jewellery industry in India is largely driven by individual family owned small to medium size businesses. Thus, the Group anticipates that there is scope of development of large retailers / brand in jewellery industry in near future. The venture will benefit from the retail experience, knowhow and trust build over the years with various ABG Luxury Retail Brands. It will also be able to harness the people, technical and operational capabilities from Groups retail arms. The range will be developed as a proof of concept for an integrated offering and may be diversified with multiple brands post establishment of a commercially viable business model.Opportunities:

  • The Jewellery industry in India is largely fragmented with family-owned small businesses contributing to the largest chunk. These businesses are largely skill centric, with customer preference, trust and long-term relationships driving customer acquisition, retention, and sales. The more organized players in the industry have also built their brands on the foundation of trust, rather than distinctive design. However, they have not been able to acquire a significant market share, at a national level. Thus, the need to build a product offering focused on distinctive design and customization aligned to customer preferences is pronounced. Aditya Birla Group feels that Jewellery is largely an unorganized market with only one national player. Hence there is a scope of another national player.
  • There is an opportunity to build a technology enabled design centric approach to blend into boutique store-based model. The unorganized players in the industry have been unable to harness the power of technology, collective buying, hedging and continual improvements in design. The synergy in terms of design, processes and technology improvements would bring in economies of scale to the business.
  • To use an understanding of the historic/ international/ consumer fashion trends from varied sources and provide direction to the internal team to translate into desired product. Value for the business can be driven by constantly observing business environment and competition and come up with improvement, innovations. Develop design leadership and develop inimitable competitive edge over competition as we have close relationships with the leading designers in India as well as Globally.
  • Investment of INR 4000 Crores over the next 5 years to setup a Greenfield Venture into a scalable business model. Develop and implement a strategy for a strong foundation for a successful enterprise and a market leader.
Position Purpose and SummaryWe are seeking an experienced professional to lead our Real Estate Business Development team across the West and South regions. This position is responsible for identifying, negotiating, and securing prime retail locations in malls and high streets, with the goal of expanding our brand presence effectively and strategically. The ideal candidate will bring extensive industry experience, a solid understanding of market dynamics, and the ability to build and maintain a strong network of property consultants and developers.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor the RBD team to achieve store expansion targets and maintain high performance standards.
  • Develop and manage a pipeline of potential properties for retail expansion, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong networks with malls, high streets, property consultants, and developers.
  • Source and identify properties in target markets, with a thorough understanding of geographical nuances.
  • Negotiate commercial terms and agreements with landlords and developers to secure favorable conditions.
  • Oversee and prepare property presentations, commercial notes, and IRR discussions to align stakeholders.
  • Ensure legal due diligence and proper documentation for each property transaction.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for landlords and franchisees, addressing issues and maintaining productive relationships.
  • Coordinate closely with internal teams, especially Legal and Finance, to ensure smooth, timely execution of projects.
Desired Skills and Acumen
  • A Bachelors or Masters degree is required for this role.
  • Minimum 10-12 years of experience in real estate business development, with a proven record of launching 100-150 stores.
  • Strong team leadership skills with an ability to inspire and motivate.
  • Thorough geographical knowledge of the West and South regions.
  • Excellent networking skills with established contacts in malls, high streets, and the property market.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and potential for future growth within the organization.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and negotiation skills, with local language understanding as a plus.
  • Highly organized, with attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset.
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint for reporting and presentations.
  • Tenacity and influence to drive timely outcomes, especially with internal stakeholders in Legal and Finance.
