Works as a key part of the Strategy, Architecture and Engineering Team leadership team to achieve collective success for IG Technology helps shape and develop long term direction of the function, contributing to the overall IT strategy and transformation journey, alongside Architecture Sets the strategic direction, and lead the delivery / implementation of best practice software engineering practices, working in collaboration with senior stakeholders within Technology and the broader organisation to drive, evolve and ensure visibility and awareness of the minimal standards and recommended best practices for engineering craftsmanship, ways of working (WoW), tooling and process Design, manage and evolve an IG wide Software Engineering Community of Practice, leading the newly established cohort of \'best engineers\' and ensure that their IG wide capacity - expected to be up to 2 days per month - is focused on the most impactful, IG wide, problems and opportunities Coach, mentors and supports our principal engineer and engineering teams Act as a disruptor and change agent, educating the wider IG organisation on the business benefits of adopting modern software engineering approaches and practices Lead the design and evolution of our software engineering learning and development offerings and resources and ensure that these are visible to the engineering community Builds strategic relationships with 3rd party providers of software engineering and software engineers Partners closely with large delivery teams to source software engineering resources for their teams Undertaking independent software engineering assurance reviews Likely Background Experience Experience leading a large, high achieving engineering function with a comprehensive understanding of highly available, mission critical systems. Broad and detailed knowledge of what good modern software engineering practices should look like in an automated, cloud-native, productised, Agile environment. Will have previously formulated a vision for a modern, complex software engineering function gained support for it from the business and then used their influence to realise clear, statistically illustrated benefits. Clear track record as a change agent with clear understanding of core learning principles and change management practices: setting out a clear vision, defining clear plans to achieve this vision, and engaging broad groups of technologists to embed new ways of working. Experience within a product focused environment with strong understanding of system reliability and stability patterns.
