The Business Unit
Electrification Sensing business, which builds solutions for alternative and clean energy markets. We develop and manufacture Safety and Sensor Solutions using advanced technology and signal conditioning circuits for Electric Vehicles and Energy Storage applications within the Automotive, Transportation, Aerospace, and Industrial markets.
As a Sr. Hardware Engineer here at Honeywell, you will be responsible for leading anddriving the Gas Sensor design process from concept to production. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define hardware requirements and specifications and design complex hardware systems including sense Die, ASIC and controller. Your role will also involve performing sensor testing and validation to ensure product performance and reliability. Additionally, you will provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers, stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies, and contribute to the overall success of hardware design projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• "hands-on", requiring knowledge of and safe use of chemicals and gases, and chemistry lab tools.
• Immediately work with a team of technicians, engineers, and other scientists to design and execute experimental studies to validate and improve the performance
of sensor prototypes
• Evaluate the sensor performance and reliability under various conditions and environments.
• Develop sensor ink formulation, fabricate sensors or electrodes, and perform analytical electrochemical/chemical tests, and performance evaluation tests.
• Identify and improve new sensor testing capabilities
• Collaborate with the engineering team to assist in prototype validation, improvement, and finalization
• Communicate technical findings and challenges with the team to advance product development.
Candidate Qualifications
Electrochemistry Expertise: Fundamental understanding of electrochemical processes and principles, electrode design, prototype and validation, ink formulation, reaction kinetics, transport phenomena, familiar with electroanalytical methods, e.g. cyclic voltammetry(CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).
The job requires a chemistry-based degree (Organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, and electrochemistry) could all apply
Gas sensor development knowledge: formulation development, sensor prototyping, design of experiment(DOE) experience to improve sensor performance, e.g. sensitivity, selectively, response speed, tolerance to environmental factors (humidity, temperature, pressure), sensor lifespan
Material Science and Engg: catalyst development, membrane science, ink formulation, Nanotechnology and understanding of material degradation
Sensor Design and prototyping
• Experience working within sensor design, model, and test development cycles, e.g. working through concept development, proof of principle experimentation, prototype creation, and technology transfer into New Product Development.
• Knowledge heat management of sensors operating at elevated temp & Humidity
• Techniques for creating compact, Integrated sensor solutions (eg MEMS based sensors)
• Understanding circuits for signal amplification, noise reduction and interfacing with the
control system.
Design & Development:
• Design and develop gas sensor hardware systems and components, including sensor integration and interfaces.
• Provide inputs to PCB layout design, and component selection, ensuring compliance with Automotive standards and specifications.
• Perform simulations and modeling to validate sensor performance, accuracy, and reliability.
• Optimize designs for manufacturability, testability, and cost efficiency.
Testing & Validation:
• Develop Industry Standard Gas Sensor Calibration methods compensating for Temp, Humidity, Pressure and Dynamic performance drift.
• Evaluate response time, limit of detection, repeatability and linearity.
• Develop and execute test plans for gas sensors, including functionality, environmental stress, and performance testing.
• Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigation to resolve design or manufacturing issues.
• Collaborate with validation teams to test sensor accuracy, durability, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Collaboration & Cross-functional Engagement:
• Work closely with software, firmware, and System engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of gas sensors into broader systems.
• Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturers, and internal teams for prototyping, manufacturing support, and component sourcing.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute for system architecture, design feasibility, and reliability
Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
• Stay up to date on the latest sensor technologies, materials, and trends in the industry.
• Benchmark competitive products and integrate innovative features to differentiate the company's gas sensor solutions.
• Contribute to the creation of intellectual property (IP) and patents related to gas sensing technologies
Customer Support & Troubleshooting:
• Interface with customers to understand requirements, provide technical support, and resolve field issues.
• Participate in customer reviews and offer insights into sensor performance and integration within customer systems.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in chemistry-related fields (e.g., organic chemistry, chemical engineering)
• 3-5 years of experience
