Core Purpose of the Role:
  • The candidate will be leading efforts for generation of therapeutic and reagent-grade antibodies by hybridoma approach. He or she will be in a fast-paced work environment that offers a great opportunity to learn and grow.
Key Responsibilities
  • Foster the Syngene cultural mindset of a Safety-First and Quality-On-Time-In-Full organization, adopting Syngene\'s core values of integrity, excellence and professionalism in everything you do.
  • Have working knowledge of drug discovery, project leadership and people management.
  • Work independently on designing experiments, analyzing/interpreting data and presenting to client.
  • Spend 30-50% time/effort in the lab and supervise a team of 8-10 scientists (PhD and MSc/MTech).
  • On a daily basis, carefully review data generated by team members before data go out to clients and provide input on next set of experiments.
  • Strictly follow guidelines and protocols and impart training to the team.
  • Guide, inspire, motivate and train research scientists in the team at various levels.
  • Provide technical and scientific input in project design and proposal writing.
  • Improve lab efficiency and streamline the operational processes to increase productivity.
  • Analyze operational problems, identify solutions, and implement corrective actions.
  • Identify and implement development opportunities for the team members for scientific and professional growth.
  • Contribution to vendor management, inventory keeping, general laboratory maintenance, quality and safety.
  • Comply with Regulatory, Safety and Quality policies of Syngene for self and team.
  • Maintain contingency plans and rapidly resolve the problems as they arise, if required, in consultation with the stakeholders.

  • Handle technical, operational and managerial workflows and seamlessly move between these.
  • Foster innovation and improve customer outcomes through development and validation of experiments and workflows.
  • Demonstrate experience and maturity handling high-performing teams in a matrix environment.
  • Possess the knowledge and involve in the development of environment, health, and safety (EHSS) practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Accountabilities as a Syngene Leader:
  • Champion effective Environment, Occupational Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) practices for the company and oversee compliance with those practices within Biologics business. Play an active leadership role in monitoring and verifying safety performance through Gemba walks and other safety-led activities.
  • Foster a corporate culture that promotes an environment, occupational health, safety, and sustainability (EHSS) mindset as well as the highest standards of quality, integrity, and compliance.

Educational Qualification:
  • PhD in Life Sciences (5-10 years)
Technical / functional Skills:
  • Strong working knowledge of therapeutic antibody discovery.
  • Strong experience in therapeutic antibody discovery by hybridoma technology and/or B cell cloning/ display platforms is a must.
  • Experience in Bioinformatics to support antibody engineering, sequence optimization and humanization.
  • Experience with fundamental molecular biology techniques and flow cytometry.
  • Excellent attention to details, diligent documentation and efficient communication skills.
  • Data interpretation and decision-making ability.
Experience:
  • 5-10 years after PhD in therapeutic antibody discovery
  • Relevant industry experience mandatory
Behavioral Skills:
  • Demonstrate strong people management skills, leading by example with a high level of emotional intelligence, and be willing to work collaboratively with other functional groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Ability to lead cross-functional teams and act as a true team player.
  • Ability to discuss and debate data and project strategy with demanding clients and scientific experts.
