GOVERNMENT RELATIONS SPECIALIST
Description
Monitors and complies with legislative and regulatory issues that may impact the business in the U.S., country of assignment, or international region. Supports the government relations team with research and document drafting.
Monitors and complies with legislative, regulatory, trade, and public affairs issues in the U.S. , country of assignment, or international region at all levels of government; undertakes special research projects as requested by the Manager or Director; prepares white papers and other documentation of current legislative and regulatory issues that may impact the business.
Drafts summaries of new laws, regulations, and interpretations; distributes summaries and new laws, regulations and interpretations to Manager and/or Director; prepares draft presentations of pending and new legislation and regulations for presentation to business leaders.
Prepares draft responses for governmental departments and legislative staffs that clarify the organization\xe2\x80\x99s position on proposed legislation or regulations.
Schedules and plans lobbying meetings and events; coordinates meetings and events with highest levels of Cummins\xe2\x80\x99 leadership.
Tracks filing or reporting deadlines for political action committees or lobbying efforts.
Develops an understanding of government operations and lobbying practices and focus; develops government contacts that will benefit the organization\xe2\x80\x99s business and community goals; develops strong internal contacts across all functions and business units; develops contacts in states and localities with large Cummins\xe2\x80\x99 presence; develops a strong understanding of the business and business issues within the U.S. , country of assignment, or international region.
Maintains logs, databases, and other tracking tools for the department; develops expert skills in using technology to assist with job duties.
Complies with all laws, regulations, and ethical concerns within area of jurisdiction and broadly across the organization.

Government Advocacy - Demonstrates deep understanding of the mechanics of how the legislative, executive and judicial branches enact law or policy changes at the national, state/provincial and local government level in the country of assignment; identifies engagement opportunities and legal obligations relating to lobbying and political activities at the national, state/provincial and local levels.
Legislative Research - Reviews and interprets legislative text, regulations and policy proposals, and compares/contrasts with other laws or regulations; summarizes government policy proposals in context of business needs.
Education, Licenses, Certifications
College, university, or equivalent degree required.
Experience
Minimal relevant work experience required.
Building relationships within the government particularly the identified Ministries and including Industry Associations
