Position Description: This position holder shall lead, coach, and challenge the logistics and purchasing teams. Drive collaboration with Sea Sourcing, and initiate innovations within the teams and all relevant stakeholders thereby positioning the purchasing team as a value-adding function within Seaspan. Is responsible for ensuring efficient procurement of all materials (spare parts, equipment, consumables, and provisions) for Seaspan global fleet operations onshore and offshore. Deliver commercial synergies through safe and realiable supplies of the right quality, with visible cost savings, timely deliveries, and favourable commercial terms & conditions. Ensure Seaspan\'s processes, procedures, and business objectives align with global legislative requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005) and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or senior management team members (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines.
  • Drive the performance of the purchasing and logistics teams in areas of responsibility and continuously execute with appropriate actions till the financial closure of the commitment.
  • Independently support the teams in developing appropriate solutions for complex challenges faced during contingency situations.
  • P2P process expert and FMS super user ensures compliance with company processes and advises on process improvement opportunities.
  • Owns and monitors vendor performance and participates in all audits including the closing of any deficiencies.
  • Owns the reporting and makes recommendations on the usage of newbuilds owners and purchase benefits.
  • In addition to own area of responsibility, support cross-functional activities as required.
  • Demonstrate and advise on cost awareness thus minimizing SSML operational expenditure.
  • Proactively manage exception reports/status updates of SSML Fleet Operations SC performance.
  • Liaise between the global and local stakeholders requisitioning departments, quality control, warehousing, logistics, legal, support functions and vendors.
  • Assist in establishing a performance culture through clear objective setting, continuous constructive feedback, and active development plans.
  • Allocate workload and delegate responsibility based on expertise and resource availability within the team and plan future staffing requirements.
  • Manage relationships with global and local stakeholders: requisitioning departments, quality control, legal and transporting, importing & expediting team, other support functions and vendors.
  • Oversees the logistics budget in liaison with the Category and Vessel Managers to ensure a cost-effective and smooth flow of goods to the fleet.
  • Resolves the challenges that have been escalated and monitors the KPI in this area.
  • Takes remedial action where required and resolves issues within the team. Provides training and guidance to team members.
  • Collaborate with the Sea Sourcing team & with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and requirements and ensure that procurement decisions meet their needs.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements:
  • Five or more years of experience in a shipping company in a leadership role in purchasing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style
  • Sound organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Good interpersonal and negotiating skills.
  • Must be a Postgraduate or an MBA Holder.

Additional Desired Qualifications:
  • Education or degree in purchasing or supply chain management.
  • Sailing experience as a 2nd engineer or higher.
  • Containership or ship management experience preferred.

Job Demands and/or Physical Requirements:
  • Availability via mobile device outside of office hours.
  • Periodic overtime to meet deadlines or accommodate time zone differences.
  • Occasional international travel is required and may be on short notice.
