Our clients use these insights and investment ideas to develop their strategies. GIR produces original, fundamental research and analysis of industries, companies and economies. Our research teams continually identify and analyse financial information, strategic issues and trends that affect companies, industries and markets on a regional and global scale.Role overview: The Tactical Research Group (TRG) provides bottom-up research into investment strategies by combining stock, thematic and macroeconomic analyses. Since foundation in 2005, the group has developed a suite of investment styles leveraging the unique GS database (Quantum) and quantitative models such as the Buy-out model, Factor Profiling Scores and CROCI methodology. Combining these tools with views from micro analysts, the Investment Review Committee/Director of Research (DoRs) and also macroeconomics, the team advocates selected screens, thematic ideas and stocks. The role of the TRG analyst based in India is to focus on analyzing market based data for the purpose of publishing thematic or quantitative research. The idea is to focus on the quantitative tasks initially as well as developing more value added proprietary products for the team over time (i.e. move up the value chain as earned).Job Responsibilities:
Work closely with the US Tactical Research team. The role would involve:

  • Combining the macro and the micro: analyzing fundamental datasets of the US equity markets in the context of the broader macro picture, in order to form a market and thematic view.
  • Analyzing and presenting this analysis in our published departmental research reports. These reports are quantitative and thematic in nature.
  • Managing and structuring financial data in a presentable form. This involves maintaining large, and often complex, data sets.
  • Maintain and develop infrastructure and run analyses that help in managing the investment review process.
  • Responding to regular and ad hoc data/analysis requests from external and internal clients (sales and trading, other research teams)
  • Maintain and upgrade (over time) the team\'s infrastructure. The role would involve:
  • Developing proficiency in a coding language (e.g. python) to automate workflows and analyze data over time
  • Working on ad-hoc client requests
  • Work closely with the US Merchandising Team. The role would involve:
  • Act as a liaison between sales and research
  • Publish daily market commentaries
  • Compile reports highlighting the top research reports
Basic Qualifications:
  • MBA | Master\'s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting or related field | Chartered Accountant
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in financial services; prior investment research experience would be an added advantage
  • Experience working on Python or other coding languages is a positive\xef\x82\xb7Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound knowledge of concepts in Financial Management and Accounting\xef\x82\xb7Interest in investments and the associated research processes.
  • Excellent Excel skills

  • Candidate must be proactive, enthusiastic and team oriented
  • Ability to prioritize and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Acknowledge of a financial data repository (like FactSet, Bloomberg or Datastream) would be an added advantage
