You will oversee the field and laboratory, conduct studies, and interpret regulations. You will participate in new business efforts and proposal preparation including identifying client needs and developing cost estimates. Your expertise will help ensure geotechnical project aspects meet project requirements.Major Responsibilities:
Evaluates, selects, and applies standard geotechnical engineering methods preparing specifications for subsurface investigations for new and existing facilities
Provides oversight of geotechnical analyses such as stability of soil and rock slopes, rock excavation and slope protection, bearing capacity and settlement of shallow foundations, lateral earth pressures, and axial and lateral pile capacities
Coordinates civil or structural engineering designs with geotechnical assessments
Conducts review of geotechnical interpretative reports and works with geotechnical consultants to produce high quality co-coordinated submissions
Assists with and advises on earthwork operations, inspection of earthworks and monitoring of ground improvement during the construction phase of projects
Oversees outside geotechnical consultants hired by Bechtel or the client to perform these tasks
Provides input to reports and may provide technical assistance to other geotechnical personnel
Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project requirements related to addressing issues as they arise during project execution
Education and Experience Requirements:
M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited university and minimum 8 years of progressive related experience, or a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering and minimum 6 years of progressive related experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Advanced expertise in geotechnical engineering design principles.
Understanding of site and subsurface investigations, foundation design, earthwork and slope stability analysis, and construction dewatering.
Experience in large industrial projects, specializing in design and construction within soft soil environments and ground improvement techniques.
Proficient in developing specifications and scopes of work for geotechnical engineering projects.
Expertise in utilizing software such as Plaxis 2D and 3D, LPILE, APILE, SHAFT, GROUP, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, GRLWEAP, CAPWAP, Settle3D, and DYNA6.
Expertise in seismic-related issues and evaluation of soil liquefaction potential.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing reports, memos, calculations, and technical documentation.
Professional Engineer registration (PE) or equivalent, as applicable.
Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
