As a Senior Geophysicist specializing in Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) tunnels, your primary responsibility will be to provide geological expertise and support throughout the planning, design, and construction phases of tunnel projects. You will work closely with project teams, engineers, and geotechnical specialists to ensure the successful execution of tunneling projects while minimizing risks and optimizing efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
• Geotechnical Investigation: Conduct comprehensive geotechnical investigations to assess the geological conditions along the proposed tunnel alignment. This includes collecting and analyzing soil and rock samples, conducting geophysical surveys, and evaluating the stability of the surrounding geological formations.
• Geological Mapping: Create detailed geological maps and cross-sections based on field observations, laboratory testing, and geotechnical data. Identify potential hazards such as fault zones, groundwater inflows, and unstable ground conditions that may affect tunnel construction.
• Tunnel Design Support: Collaborate with tunnel design teams to provide geotechnical input for the development of tunnel designs. Assess the geological risks and challenges associated with the proposed design and suggest mitigation measures.
• Ground Support Design: Assist in the design of ground support systems for tunnel construction, including rock bolts, shotcrete, and tunnel linings. Evaluate the geotechnical properties of the rock mass and recommend appropriate support measures to ensure tunnel stability.
• Construction Monitoring: Oversee and monitor the implementation of geotechnical measures during tunnel construction. Conduct regular site visits to assess the geological conditions, review instrumentation data, and provide guidance on ground control and excavation techniques.
• Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for potential geological hazards. Provide input on contingency plans and emergency response procedures in case of unforeseen geological events.
• Technical Reports and Documentation: Prepare technical reports, geotechnical logs, and other project documentation. Communicate geological findings, recommendations, and progress updates to project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
• Analytical Knowledge: Must have knowledge of Tunnel Seismic Prediction (TSP) data analysis, Seismograph data analysis.
• Additionally, must have knowledge in any geophysical analysis like BEAM etc.
