WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist oversees GIS and other relational database programs and provides technical expertise to the Conservancy staff. They coordinate GIS and other relational database activities between internal and external sources. The Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist designs and maintains the centralized database, participates in conservation planning at various levels, and develops methods for mapping and classifying ecosystems and data management, including developing and maintaining all documentation for data and data management. They perform data analysis; design and produce advanced complex queries and professional reports, process spatial and other relational data sets derived from cartographic and tabular source material, provide hardware and software support, produce maps and other graphic products and reports, and develop and maintain GIS library and/or database products library.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
• Designs, implements, and directs complex and diverse projects, encompassing multiple programs and coordinating the work of other professionals inside and outside the organization.
• Incorporates cross-disciplinary knowledge to support program objectives.
• Significant opportunity to act independently within broad program goals.
• In supervisory capacity, plans, organizes and directs assigned project programs. Typically supervises project staff of Analysts, Specialists and Technicians.
• Manages projects on a large geographic scale.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• B.S. degree and certification in related field and 5 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
• Experience in designing and maintaining a database to meet organizational needs.
• Experience in developing and managing multiple projects.
• Experience managing and supervising a team or department and administering a budget.
• Experience training individuals and groups (if required).
• Fundraising experience.
• Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers.
• Experience interpreting image analysis, complex spatial analysis, data modeling and landscape scenario analysis.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Working knowledge of legal real estate documents.
• Intermediate or advanced knowledge in image analysis
• Demonstrated experience in the following areas: interpretation of image analysis, complex spatial analysis, data modeling, landscape scenario analysis, and web mapping.
• Demonstrated experience in analyzing historical and spatial trends from remote sensing data
• Working knowledge of and experience using ESRI ArcGIS software
• Working knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and geographic region(s).
• Demonstrated experience collaborating with other parties to obtain different data sources.
• Managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources and meeting deadlines.
• Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
