Job Summary:
The General Manager (GM) of a construction firm oversees the day-to-day operations, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role involves strategic planning, resource management, and coordination between various departments to meet organizational goals. The GM is responsible for maintaining client relationships, securing new business, and upholding safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operational Management:
• Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of construction projects.
• Ensure efficient allocation and utilization of resources, including manpower, materials, and equipment.
• Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance productivity and efficiency.
• Strategic Planning:
• Work with senior management to develop long-term business strategies.
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including bids and tenders.
• Analyze market trends and adjust strategies accordingly to maintain a competitive edge.
• Financial Management:
• Prepare and manage budgets, ensuring projects are completed within financial constraints.
• Monitor financial performance and implement measures to improve profitability.
• Approve expenditures and ensure cost control measures are in place.
• Team Leadership:
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of project managers, engineers, and support staff.
• Foster a positive work environment that encourages collaboration and professional growth.
• Conduct performance reviews and implement training programs to enhance team skills.
• Client Relations:
• Maintain strong relationships with existing clients and stakeholders.
• Address client concerns promptly and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Negotiate contracts and agreements with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Quality and Safety:
• Ensure all projects adhere to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
• Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure safety and quality standards are maintained.
• Reporting and Documentation:
• Prepare regular reports on project status, financial performance, and operational metrics.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all projects, including contracts, change orders, and correspondence.
• Present reports to senior management and stakeholders as required.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry.
• Proven track record of successfully managing construction projects.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• In-depth knowledge of construction processes, project management principles, and safety regulations.
• Proficiency in construction management software and tools.
• Ability to make critical decisions under pressure and solve complex problems.
