Job Title: Fire and Safety Officer

Job Summary:
We are looking for a proactive and highly skilled Fire and Safety Officer to join our team and ensure the safety and well-being of all employees and visitors within the facility. The primary responsibility is to manage and enforce fire safety protocols, conduct regular safety inspections, and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. This role involves risk assessment, emergency preparedness planning, and continuous training of staff on safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
• Fire Safety Management:
• Develop, implement, and enforce fire safety policies and procedures within the organization.
• Conduct regular fire drills and ensure that employees are trained in fire safety protocols, including evacuation procedures.
• Oversee the maintenance and inspection of fire safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, alarms, sprinklers) to ensure functionality and compliance with legal standards.
• Identify fire hazards within the workplace and work to eliminate or mitigate risks.
• Risk Assessment & Safety Inspections:
• Conduct regular workplace safety inspections to identify potential hazards and risks related to fire, health, and safety.
• Prepare risk assessments and implement corrective actions to minimize workplace hazards.
• Ensure that safety and fire equipment is properly maintained and meets legal and regulatory standards.
• Emergency Preparedness & Response:
• Develop and implement emergency evacuation plans, ensuring that all staff are familiar with emergency exits, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Act as the primary contact for emergency situations, coordinating with first responders (fire department, medical teams, etc.) as needed.
• Maintain up-to-date emergency contact information and ensure readiness for any fire or safety-related emergencies.
• Training & Awareness:
• Conduct regular safety training sessions and workshops to educate employees on fire prevention, emergency response, and general safety practices.
• Ensure that all employees understand their role in fire safety and know the correct procedures for reporting hazards or unsafe conditions.
• Keep track of training completion and ensure all staff are up to date on required safety certifications.
• Compliance & Reporting:
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and national fire safety regulations, as well as OSHA standards, by keeping up to date with legislation.
• Maintain and update fire and safety records, including training logs, inspection reports, and incident reports.
• Prepare and submit regular safety reports to senior management, outlining hazards, safety audits, and areas for improvement.
• Safety Program Development:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive safety program to promote a culture of safety within the workplace.
• Provide input on safety-related improvements to workplace infrastructure, equipment, and operations.
• Conduct investigations and write reports on any workplace accidents or safety incidents, recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Qualifications:
• Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Fire Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. Additional certifications in fire safety or health & safety (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, or Fire Safety Certificate) are highly desirable.
• Experience:
• 5+ years of experience in fire safety, emergency response, or workplace safety roles, preferably within a manufacturing, industrial, or corporate environment.
• Skills:
• In-depth knowledge of fire safety protocols, health and safety regulations, and emergency response procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for training and liaising with employees and external authorities.
• Ability to perform risk assessments and implement safety programs.
• Quick decision-making abilities during emergency situations.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills to maintain compliance records.
• Certifications:
• Certification in Fire Safety, First Aid, CPR, or related safety management qualifications are advantageous.
