Google Cloud Architect Professional certification.
Six or more years relevant experience in FinOps, Cloud Cost Management and Cost Optimization on AWS or GCP.
Must have hands on right sizing, capacity planning and provisioning experience with GCP or AWS (GCP preferred).
Working experience and knowledge in configuring cost management and cost monitoring services native to GCP or AWS. Passionate and comfortable handling FinOps discussions at the technical, business, and financial level.
Ability to converse fluently with business and product stakeholders covering CapEx/OpEx, TCO, ROI, etc.
Having designed and/or worked with cost management and governance frameworks supporting continuous cost optimization paradigm.
Solid understanding of networking, storage, compute, infrastructure and application support, and application development concepts as it pertains to cloud computing.
Very good working knowledge in hybrid cloud and multi cloud infrastructure financial management or migration execution.
Ability to engage in strategy conversations with clients on cloud economics and driving value proposition within their business.
Good knowledge on value stream with ability to drive value stream initiatives.
Knowledge of AWS or GCP funding programs.
Experience with chargeback/showback modeling, cost savings, and forecasting.
Strong interpersonal skills /collaboration skills to ensure progress is made.
Certifications on one or more cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) such as AWS Cloud Practitioner, Azure Fundamentals, GCP Foundational, FinOps Foundation.
Responsibilities
Conduct assessments of the current cloud spend, forecast and identify improvements to control expenditure.
Establish a cloud economics process and policy for the engagement with a clear view of deliverables, artefacts, dependencies, and decision points.
Architect and implement a solution using GCP and AWS native services to monitor and control cloud expenditure automatically. This may involve integration and automation activities if the services do not provide this out of the box.
Create cloud cost monitoring dashboards (either on Grafana or any alternative) for the different personas, set up alerts on expenditure based on budgets set and usage.
Ensure cloud resources are right-sized and optimally utilized. Optimization of services may be required, and you will need to work with the Development team to profile and fine tune the systems.
Create a capacity plan and ensure appropriate processes, checks and balances are in place to keep it updated based on real-time utilization and migration of resources.
Assess and ensure an asset tagging policy in in place. You will also need to work with GKE and containerized deployments where resources are ephemeral.
Implement automations using IaC (on Terraform) to automatically discard unused resources based on policies defined.
Help customers understand the opportunities for optimization and their cost saving abilities in cloud.
