Purpose
The position of the Head of Business Finance - New Product Development (NPD) exists to ensure that financial analysis, business case preparation, and financial management are integrated into the NPD process. This role adds unique value by driving cost optimization, evaluating the financial viability of new products, and ensuring that product development aligns with financial goals. Through rigorous financial oversight, business case analysis, and collaboration with cross-functional teams, this position supports the company's long-term growth by ensuring that new products are both profitable and feasible within the set budgets. Role Description
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, marketing, operations) to develop comprehensive business cases for new product development, ensuring financial feasibility and alignment with corporate strategy.
Partner with the should-cost team to define target material costs for new products, considering market conditions, supplier performance, and product requirements.
Lead efforts to define and deploy target material costs by evaluating suppliers, production methods, and other relevant factors to optimize the cost structure of new products.
Collaborate with the Manufacturing, Industrialization, and Work-Flow (MIW) team to estimate in-house costs and finalize target costs for manufacturing new products, ensuring accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
Conduct in-depth investment analysis, including NPV, payback period, and DCF to evaluate the financial viability of NPD initiatives, ensuring that investments align with the company's strategic objectives.
Perform make-or-buy analysis to determine the most cost-effective approach for product components and materials, considering financial impacts, quality, and operational efficiency.
Partner with R&D teams to ensure product designs are aligned with target costs, providing financial insights and recommendations for design optimization to meet budget expectations.
Lead benchmark and teardown activities for new product models to compare costs and features with competitor products, providing financial insights and recommendations for cost optimization.
Collaborate with the marketing team to assess and optimize product pricing and features, ensuring alignment with cost structures and maximizing profit margins while meeting customer needs.
Proactively escalate any concerns related to cost overruns, financial risks, or potential project delays to senior leadership, ensuring early intervention and mitigation.
Monitor and analyze development costs, investments, variable costs, margins, and other financial aspects, ensuring accurate tracking against targets and making adjustments where necessary.
