Fellowship in Maxillofacial Prosthodontics and Dental Oncology



Conceptualized in the year 2004 as a philanthropic initiative for the Eastern and North-Eastern


parts of India and the neighboring countries, the Tata Medical Center (TMC) started operations in


Kolkata on May 16, 2011. The hospital is governed by a charitable trust - Tata Medical Centre


Trust. It is an integrated Oncology facility with well-trained professional staff and equipped with


modern facilities and the most contemporary medical equipment. The hospital was designed by


Cannon Design, a renowned architectural firm from North America. It is located on 13 acres of


land at New Town in Kolkata, West Bengal.


The Hospital, with a capacity of 437 beds, serves all sections of the society, with 75% of the


infrastructure earmarked for subsidized treatment for the underprivileged sections. It provides a


wide spectrum of services from diagnosis and therapy to rehabilitation and palliative support.


The Institution's objective is to excel in service, education and research.


The fellowship program is designed to provide advanced training in the field of maxillofacial


prosthodontics and dental oncology. The fellow will gain extensive hands-on experience in


diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating patients with complex oral and maxillofacial defects. They


will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care to oncology patients.


In order to fulfil the above needs, we are looking to appoint young, well trained and proactive


Dental Surgeons.


Qualification: - MDS in Prosthodontics from a dental college recognized by the Dental Council of


India.





Experience: - Demonstrated interest in maxillofacial prosthodontics and/or dental oncology.


Experience in treating Head & Neck cancer patient is desirable.




Duration of the Programme - One Year


Job description:



1. Patient Care:

• Examine and manage patients in the Outpatient Department (OPD) and perform general

dentistry as & when required.
• Treat patients requiring dental and maxillofacial rehabilitation, including pre- and post-


oncology treatment care.
• Fabricate various types of prostheses (e.g., obturators, speech aids, craniofacial

prostheses, and implants).
• Perform dental implant placement and prosthetic rehabilitation.
2. In-Patient Care:
?

Attend to admitted patients referred to the Dental Oncology department.
?

Coordinate and manage dental treatment plans for oncology patients undergoing hospital-



based care.





3. Surgical and Operative Dentistry:
?

Conduct dental procedures in the operation theatre as required for oncology cases.
?

Collaborate with surgical teams to assist in comprehensive patient care.





4. Academic Activities:
?

Present case reports, journal clubs, and participate in departmental meetings.
?

Stay updated with the latest advancements in the field by attending relevant seminars and


conferences.





5. Research and Publications:
?

Undertake a research project during the fellowship.
?

It is desirable to publish at least one article in a peer-reviewed journal prior to the


completion of the fellowship.





6. Team Collaboration:
?

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team involving surgeons, oncologists, and


rehabilitation specialists to provide integrated care.
?

Participate in team discussions for treatment planning and case reviews.
