• Effect Executive orders can influence government affairs, such as how legislation is enforced, how emergencies are handled, and how wars are waged.
• Duration Executive orders remain in effect until they are canceled, revoked, expire, or are ruled unlawful.
• Review The president can revoke, modify, or make exceptions to any executive order, including those issued by previous presidents. New presidents typically review executive orders in the first few weeks of their term.
• Judicial review Executive orders are subject to judicial review and can be overturned if they lack support from the Constitution or statute.
