We work across disciplines to transform improved hardware and software elements into a single, integrated design. Do you have a passion for invention and self-challenge ?The RoleAs part of our ESS Engineering group, his/her mission is to assure the introduction of new technology for development of green battery systems for railway traction and auxiliary applications. The ESS Validation & Testing Leader is responsible for application of testing, validation & certification tools & methodologies and contribute to continous improvement compliant with new requirements. He/She ensures application of the best practice and technical development of engineering community with training/support to be at the required level of competence. He/She must follow the state of the art, define and structure the validation steps of new Battery technologies. He/She will be ensuring QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) management on testing, validation and certification activities and responsible for the documentation of solutions, the follow-up of their application in the project and the growth of reliability.Main ResponsibilitiesFor development of Traction and Auxiliary energy storage systems, he/she utilises skills to lead testing, validation and certification activities for development of next generation traction and auxiliary battery systems. Responsibilities include : -

• Define best practices in his domain and spread them in the community.
• Create and update the knowledge guidelines, tools and templates of deliverables. Deploy those guidelines, tools and templates in the community and to promote their use.
• Create & update the template of the design review check-list, chair the design reviews in his domain and approve the technical solutions by participating to the system design review.
• Coach new engineers of the domain, provide support upon request to engineers of the domain and contribute to problem solving.
• Monitor the evolution of standards and regulation impacting his domain, define how those standards must be applied by creating and updating clause-by-clause of the standards.
• Implement standard process and related methodologies & tools to ensure Certification and Validation efficiency.
• Ensure technical quality of the deliverables produced by validation engineers by reviewing and signing.
• Capitalization of feedback on reference solutions, return of experience, and document repositories of his domain.
• Share REX, guidelines, tools, templates and check-lists with other experts and skill leaders on other sites.
• Providing structured REX to feed costing activities, and to enrich the technical repository.
• Review Validation Plan and Validation Management Plan for the product and/or project at tender level.
• Promote continuous improvement initiatives. Review Parts Validation Plan relevant to test at ESS level or Train level and accepting (to be included in ESS Validation Plan) or rejecting considering other possibilities.
• Review and approve ESS Test Procedures / reports.
• Ensure Test Execution and Test Report, timely issue of the Validation proofs (including proofs of Parts Validation and Test Bench achievement) and consolidating Validation files.
• Manage the ESS level validation activities, creating and maintaining the Validation Plan. Managing the Certification and Validation (CV) project team.
• Manage validation schedule, optimizing the validation sequence in relationship with the ESS design and configuration maturity and test means availability.
• Contribute to standardization by reusing existing solutions or by implementing reusable solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement (RoE: Return on Experience etc). Remain informed of the evolution of technologies and standards in his domain.
• Ensure reporting of testing and validation activities to the ESS design and engineering team.
• Define validation strategy with the validation team and investigate technical facts during the warranty and reliability growth phase of the product, propose technical solutions and manage problem solving.
• Participate in technical meetings with the customer in support of the development manager.

Qualification, Knowledge & Experience

• BTech/ MTech degree in electrical/ electronic / automotive or chemistry applied to battery systems.
• Minimum 5 years in the testing & validation of energy storage solutions or systems incorporating advance chemistry batteries.
• Significant experience in conducting technical projects with suppliers. Experience in the railway traction and auxiliary batteries would be appreciated.
• Knowledge of constraints or standards for railway or high-power applications.
• Knowledge of technical project management and industrial development cycles (V-cycle, quality reviews, ...). Training/ certification is a plus.
• Specialized or cross-functional knowledge / relevant experience - Alstom tools and processes (or similar from other companies).
• Understanding of the needs of customers, strength of proposal, responsiveness, autonomy, teamwork and ability to convince will all be qualities necessary for success on the job.
• Fluency in English (spoken and written) required for internal and external communications.
