Job Description

The Port and Rail Yard Coordinator is responsible for managing the efficient movement of containers between ports, rail terminals, and warehouses. This role involves planning routes, coordinating with carriers and drivers, tracking containers, handling equipment, solving logistical issues, and communicating with customers.

Key Responsibilities

:

Port and Rail Yard Coordination

: Manage container movements between ports, rail terminals, and warehouses. Ensure timely and efficient transfer of goods.

Dispatch and Routing

: Plan efficient routes for short-haul trucking to reduce congestion and maximize productivity. Optimize delivery schedules to meet operational goals.

Carrier and Driver Management

: Coordinate with truck drivers to ensure they meet deadlines. Handle scheduling challenges and maintain effective communication with drivers.

Container Tracking and Management

: Monitor container availability, returns, and potential delays. Maintain accurate records of container movements and statuses.

Equipment Handling

: Manage and handle equipment such as chassis and various container types. Ensure compliance with return restrictions and equipment usage policies.

Problem-Solving in Delays

: Address issues such as port congestion, equipment shortages, and unexpected delays. Develop and implement solutions to minimize disruptions.

Customer Communication

: Provide real-time updates to clients on shipment status and estimated times of arrival (ETAs). Maintain strong relationships with customers through effective communication.

Technology and Software Use

: Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and port appointment scheduling platforms. Ensure accurate data entry and use of technology to streamline operations.

Skills and Qualifications

:

Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in using TMS and other relevant software. Problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure. Knowledge of port and rail yard operations and equipment handling.

Education and Experience

:

High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred. Previous experience in logistics, transportation, or a related field. Familiarity with port and rail yard operations is a plus.

Work Environment

:

Office setting with occasional visits to ports, rail yards, and warehouses. May require working in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
