The Brief

A globally focused shipping and transportation organisation is continuing to drive an ambitious and complex change and transformational programme to deliver a service of excellence for its customers and clients worldwide. The Global CTIO has a mandate from the Maersk board to lead the Technology transformation of Maersk which will enable the Maersk business strategy to become the global integrator of container logistics through digitising the Maersk business processes and customer engagement.


The Technology function is fundamental to enable the company's transformation and in response to this demand, our in-house technological capability is growing exponentially. Why this job matters?


The Network Product Engineering function is pivotal to our transformation, it is a central team within Network Architecture & Engineering, responsible for the engineering delivery of the product/service roadmaps, technical vision, and service solution designs of the connectivity network and perimeter capabilities provided to Maersk.


Reporting to the Head of Network Product Engineering you will serve as an Engineering Manager Service Solution Design; including leadership of service solution design specialists that underpin this function. This role is responsible for end-2-end service solution design ownership across transformative product, platform and service initiatives focused on modernizing, scaling, segmenting and automating Maersk's global network and perimeter capabilities which provides the fixed and wireless connectivity services that underpin the integrator strategy.


It has a critical role to play as we continue to develop our long-term multi-technology, multi-product connectivity network and perimeter capabilities, connecting our asset, sites and people on land, sea and air . Delivering best in class global connectivity and perimeter services that not only meet the need of our business today but will be a differentiator, enabling our colleagues and partners with technology solutions that are a catalyst for productivity and innovation.


Scope

All data networks provided to Maersk across Core, Edge and Cloud locations (offices, warehouses, terminals, vessels, data centres, cloud etc), and the perimeter services that protect and enable them including but not limited to:


• Wireless Transport: Satellite | 4G/LTE | 5G
• IoT Networking Solutions: Industrial Wi-Fi
• WAN: Internet | IP/MPLS | Next-Gen/SD WAN
• LAN: DC Networking | SDN | Fixed & Wireless

Specific Job Requirements


Collect, collate, analyse, develop and agree network and perimeter services requirements (including capabilities, systems, process and organisation) relating to new Maersk Technology/Business proposition releases, new capabilities, existing capabilities or additional network deployment and create the appropriate specification and impact assessment to meet those requirements.


Drive adoption of a product and agile based mindset and transform ways of working from project-based to that of a product-based organization


The role holder will lead the solution design to realise the Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) capabilities, enabling the Maersk Cloud Area Network target reference model.


This role will work with internal and external network engineers, OSS designers and service designers delivering capabilities which will enable new and existing network and perimeter products, platforms and services for the Maersk business.


Identify, delineate the essential building blocks and design the integration points that make up end-to-end NaaS products and services on the network. Producing modular and flexible end-to-end solution designs with those building blocks that meets the business requirements.


Engaging with the component design teams in the cloud, application, infrastructure, networks, systems, security and service domains steering their upstream and downstream output into a cohesive set of artefacts with well-defined northbound/southbound interfaces and operating parameters.


Work across TSE, TOP, Cyber, the Business, Managed Service Partners (MSP) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to define the specifications and perform impact assessments ensuring a collaborative approach and consensus agreement of the performance and customer experience parameters of the solutions to be delivered.


Design and implement product models and product catalogs for managing perimeter and network lifecycle operations across the Enterprise Edge, Network Edge and Hybrid Cloud. Document, publish and maintain integration architectures for systems entities and their interfaces.


Implement and publish APIs for upstream consumers to adopt network and perimeter NaaS in a consistent way. Work with the Product Owners and TSE engineering teams to prioritize features for ongoing sprints and implement features based on service line demand, industry trends, known defects, and issues.

• Be a world class expert in the service solution design and service integration domain, acting as a SPOC and responsible to Network Strategy & Portfolio Operations, ensuring that network and perimeter service and solution designs are harmonized with Network OSS Engineering and Network Reliability Engineering roadmaps and are in line with architectural patterns.
• Work with Solution/Engineering Design peers in the TSE and TOP ecosystem and define implementation roadmap and scope sprints to deliver faster business outcomes.
• Provide subject matter expertise to guide the definition & execution of converged network & perimeter solutions, leading the bottom-up-build process to support budgeting & investment cases.
• Ensure the successful incremental design, build, deploy and operate of the current capability stack while modernizing and transforming to enable the future strategy.
• Provide streamlined NaaS fulfilment journeys such that Maersk is self-sufficient in the company's ability to deliver on its strategic remit.
• Lead on the in-scope service and solution integration engineering of businesses acquired through M&A such that it realises competitive advantage for Maersk.
• Regularly provide a transparent view of solution architecture progress , roadmap scenarios and M&A integration commitments.

What I'll be doing - your accountabilities?


Service Solution Design - Network and perimeter e2e solution design and service discriptions that underpin all connectivity capabilities across across the Enterprise Edge, Network Edge and Hybrid Cloud:


• Ensure that network and perimeter capabilities are easily consumed "As-a-Service' by TSE Product and the business and are simultaneously compliant with Maersk technology architecture standards and security policies.
• Understand the product experience and business requirements, conceptualize and establish the prospective NaaS domain services.
• Deliver Maersk standards compliant solution designs and service discriptions to achieve the product and business outcomes adhering to the principles as defined in the Maersk.
• Provide expert guidance into the end-to-end service and solution designs.
• Network service integration and sign off final fulfilment, T2R service designs and preparation of operational training material
• Develop and elaborate solutions with detailed sequence flows for various service/API operations.
• Conduct solution design walkthroughs and reviews with the technical stakeholders.
• Develop, maintain and publish service contracts via the NaaS layers with due review and stakeholder approval.
• Support the service consumers, development and test effort of the NaaS services.
• Where required, raise KDD (Key Design Decision) documentation and obtain approval from stakeholders.

The Candidate


To be considered for this opportunity candidates will have the following capabilities.


• A demonstrable track record operating as a Solution Designer, preferably ITIL qulified with 10+ years' experience in network products, systems, service and enterprise cloud technology adoption in multi-vendor and or multi-MSP network product development environment in a globally focused business
• Significant experience with complex composite services spanning multiple network domains delivering an end-to-end network service outcome for product and or customer
• Experienced in process analysis and design using BPMN or other process mapping methodologies
• Proficient in UML, Data-modelling, ER diagrams, Sequence diagrams etc.
• Good understanding of the various agile frameworks like Scrum, Kanban, SAFe alongside the development tools used to support them such as Atlassian JIRA, Confluence is preferable
• Ability to facilitate workshops and other interactions across diverse stakeholder groups to elucidate needs and gain consensus
• Highly financially literate able to realise cost synergies, with strong MS Excel and data analysis skills.
• Domain knowledge in networks and the supporting ecosystem, experienced in engaging on network topics at all levels internally and externally:
• Traditional - Internet Access (DIA | BIA), 4G/LTE FWA, IP/MPLS, Satelite Access, Ethernet, WDM, IPSec, Firewalls, Load Balancers, Web Proxies, WANOp, NTP/PTP and DDI
• Next-generation - NAC, Micro-Segmentation, LEO, 5G, NFV, SDN, SD-WAN, NGFW, SSE
• Tooling - Active and Passive Instrumentation, NPMD and APM
• Virtual Infrastructure -Openstack, KVM, LXC, Kubernetes, VMWare and Docker
• OSS/BSS - NFV MANO, EMS, Catalogue driven Orchestration, IBN and Experience API integrations
• Knowledge of Key OSS/BSS concepts e.g. network Inventory management, provisioning/activation
• Understanding of Service concepts such as CFS, RFS, characteristics, state, relationships etc.
• Good understanding of NaaS principles, NaaS Services and abstracted models
• API gateway concepts, REST based APIs exposure and consumption
• Experience working with TMF Open Data Architecture and Open API specifications
• Strong presentation skills (written and oral), capable of articulating complex ideas with authority and making the case for adoption in simple language with the ability to present a high-level vision and story as well as the detailed analysis to underpin it.
