The Search, Marketing, and Recommendations technology science team (SMART) builds and owns all the Machine learning (ML) products that power all search, marketing, and recommendations technology across Wayfair. We are looking for an experienced machine-learning to lead the research and development of the ML systems that power our real-time Search type-ahead, content recommendations, and algorithmic customer understanding experience. In this role, you are accountable for the technical roadmap and plan to pursue innovative ideas to build the next generation of Wayfair\xe2\x80\x99s ML stack across multiple teams. You will collaborate closely with the engineering, analytics, and product leads within our SMART team to define the technical vision and work with your leadership to build the organization and culture required to execute on it. This role is a cornerstone of the Search, Marketing, and Recommendations Technology (SMART) organization, with broad visibility and close communication with leaders across the business up to Executive level.

What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Do

• Lead the development of machine learning algorithms in Wayfair\xe2\x80\x99s predictive search/type-ahead, content recommendations, and algorithmic customer understanding teams.
• Design and drive forward the technical roadmap and architecture plans for multiple teams of ML scientists and machine-learning engineers.
• Develop technical leadership within the team and continuously upskill the team while modeling a culture of continuous research and innovation.
• Collaborate closely with the product and engineering leaders in our SMART technologies group to build a next-generation search and recommendations stack and the organization required to maintain and innovate on it
• Contribute as a senior leader beyond the SMART group, in particular within Wayfair\xe2\x80\x99s broader ML community

What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Need

• Bachelor\'s or Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
• 9-15 years of industry experience serving as a lead IC on production ML systems.
• Track record of building scalable customer-facing machine learning products that work in real-time with low latency and drive tangible and material business results.
• Deep familiarity with suggest/type-ahead systems, search and ranking, and content recommendations as well as experience building scalable applications around technology such as Spark/Python/Airflow/GCP or AWS and Java.
• Strong grasp of architectural patterns and anti-patterns in scalable ML systems.
• Ability to laterally influence partners to shape technical roadmaps and the organizations required to drive them
• Track record of leading technical R+D on cutting edge search or recommendation systems
• Intellectual curiosity and a desire to always be learning!
• Familiarity with GCP (or AWS, Azure), ML model development frameworks, ML orchestration tools (Airflow, Kubeflow or MLFlow), ML monitoring tools (Arize etc), Retraining best practices etc.

Nice to have

• PhD in Computer Science, Data Science or related field
• Familiarity with Generative AI and their usage in improving search and recommender systems.
