Q2 is seeking a talented and experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Data Engineering team. The Engineering Manager, Data will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data solutions that enable our company to extract insights, make data-driven decisions, and deliver exceptional value to our customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, leadership experience, and a passion for driving technical excellence.

Responsibilities

Leadership
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to a team of data engineers.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages innovation, learning, and growth.
  • Set clear goals, expectations, and priorities for the team, and ensure alignment with company objectives.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support career development opportunities for team members.

Technical Strategy
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data engineering requirements and priorities.
  • Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for data engineering initiatives, aligning with business objectives and technological advancements.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in data engineering, and evaluate their potential impact on our business.

Architecture and Design
  • Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and design appropriate solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to data governance, security, and compliance standards throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Lead the implementation of data engineering solutions, leveraging modern technologies and tools such as cloud platforms, big data frameworks, and containerization.

Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, business stakeholders, and other engineering teams to define requirements, prioritize initiatives, and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and dependencies effectively to stakeholders, and proactively identify and mitigate potential obstacles.


Experience and Knowledge
  • Typically requires a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in (relevant degree) and a minimum of 6 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with 4+ years of experience.
  • Typically requires 1-2 years managing and developing employees
  • Proven experience of 12 years in a data engineering role, with a strong track record of designing and implementing complex data solutions.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Go as well as experience with SQL and data modelling.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, and proficiency in related services (e.g., S3, EMR, BigQuery).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.
  • Experience with several of the technologies we currently use:
    • Cloud Providers: AWS, Azure
    • Data Pipelines: Apache Airflow, dbt
    • Data Tools: Pyspark, Snowpark, AWS Glue, Pandas, Databricks, SageMaker
    • Databases: Snowflake, SqlServer, Postgresql
    • Containerization: Kubernetes, Docker
    • Languages: Python, C#, Golang, Bash, SQL
    • CI/CD: GitLab, Azure DevOps
    • SCM: Git, Github, GitLab
