Roles & Responsibilities
The Engineer- Titanium in R&D and T&E department will play a crucial role in overseeing various stages of the titanium casting process, with a focus on Vacuum Arc Melting (VAR), alloying, casting, heat treatment, inspection and testing, final processing, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The individual will lead initiatives for continuous improvement, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive excellence in titanium casting processes. A critical aspect of this role involves maintaining documentation of preventive maintenance, aligning with the stringent SOPs and standards outlined by AS9100 .
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise the vacuum arc melting process for both sponge and scrap routes.
• Ensure consumable electrodes (sponge or scrap) are melted in a controlled vacuum environment
• Implement measures to minimize oxygen and nitrogen contamination for high-purity titanium.
• Coordinate the addition of alloying elements to achieve specified mechanical and chemical properties.
• Implement precise control mechanisms to achieve the desired alloy composition.
• Oversee the ingot casting process in VAR operation, ensuring molten metal is cast into ingot molds as per procedure .
• Explore and implement various casting methods like directional solidification or continuous casting.
• Ensure that heat treatment enhances the mechanical properties of the titanium alloy.
• Establish and oversee a comprehensive testing program for ingot samples.
• Implement non-destructive testing methods to ensure ingot integrity.
• Collaborate with quality control teams to address any deviations from specified standards.
• Ensure the final product form meets desired specifications.
• Collaborate with production teams to optimize processes for efficiency and quality.
• Maintain accurate records of processes, testing results, and quality control measures.
• Ensuring safe work environment within the working area .
• Ensuring continuous improvement (Kaizen) and 5S in workshop.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education and Certifications:
• Bachelor of engineering in Metallurgy/Mechanical/Production, or a related field.
Experience:
• 0-1 years of proven experience of handling production of Titanium Ingots for any foundry or casting manufacturing industry.
Technical / Functional Expertise & other competencies:
• In-depth knowledge of titanium metallurgy and materials science.
• Understanding of the vacuum arc melting process for both sponge and scrap routes.
• Proficiency in coordinating the addition of alloying elements to achieve specific mechanical and chemical properties.
• Knowledge and experience in overseeing ingot casting processes, including exploring and implementing various casting methods like directional solidification or continuous casting.
• Expertise in managing and optimizing heat treatment processes, including annealing, solution treatment, and aging.
• Proficiency in implementing non-destructive testing methods to ensure ingot integrity.
• Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records of processes, testing results, and quality control measures as per requirement of AS9100 standards along with basic understanding of ISO 9001/14001/45001.
