As a Design Engineer on the Motor Grader Performance Structures team, you will be asked to design Linkage Structures and Work Tools that meet performance and market requirements. You will have the opportunity to direct and contribute to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes while strengthening analytical skills and mastering engineering concepts. Partnering with and providing technical guidance to a globally distributed team will be a requirement. Other expectations include staying abreast of innovative technology, mentoring and coaching team members, and intentionally developing and maintaining a network of colleagues and subject matter experts. You will lead new product introduction component programs, be responsible to deliver PQVC targets (People, Quality, Velocity & Cost), and pursue market-leading quality through the resolution of early-hour problems. Other duties include involvement in factory support, supplier collaboration and development, and support of the aftermarket.

Candidates with prior experience in agricultural equipment design, construction machinery design, or related industrial design including within transportation are encouraged to apply.

Skills/Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Design and develop structural components to meet application requirements

• Perform design verification through hand calculations and more advanced methods

• Understanding or load paths and design optimization

• Strong knowledge of fabricated and casting components - Welded Structures Design

• Ability to communicate designs and related information in collaboration discussions

• Strong knowledge of material properties and commercial availability

• Actively support a prototype, pilot, or production build and perform audits

• Perform bolted joint analysis, Creo simulation, and Fatigue or equivalent FEA analyses

• Ability to project the impact of design decisions on downstream partners including manufacturing and assembly, supply chain, aftermarket, and others

• Effectively apply design-related APQP steps

• Good understanding of concurrent product development

• Good understanding of GD&T and using it on engineering drawings

• Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor\'s or master\'s degree in mechanical engineering curriculum (or equivalent)

• 12+ years of job-related experience

• Handling complex assembly in Creo is a must for this role

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

• Prior experiences in Linkage, structure, or powertrain are preferred in that order

• Machine level experience in the previous role

• Hands-on mechanical experience is highly desired

• A good understanding of construction equipment and applications

• Prior experience in Caterpillar Standards and processes

• Prior experience with a structural component design and development

• Participation in at least one full product development cycle to provide end-to-end complex engineering solutions

• Project leadership experience

• Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
