A casualty staff nurse, also known as an emergency room (ER) nurse, has many responsibilities, including:
• Triaging patients : Assessing incoming patients and determining the severity of their medical issues
• Stabilizing patients : Providing immediate support to patients to minimize negative long-term effects
• Administering medications : Giving patients the right medication at the right time
• Performing medical procedures : Assisting doctors during procedures, such as tracheotomies and sutures
• Monitoring patients : Monitoring vital signs and identifying changes in a patient's condition
• Updating doctors and families : Keeping doctors and families informed about a patient's condition
• Creating and maintaining patient records : Keeping accurate records of a patient's care
• Working with the emergency staff : Collaborating with other emergency staff members to treat patients
• Caring for patients during recovery : Continuing to care for patients as they recover in the ICU
ER nurses work in a fast-paced environment and require a different skill set than standard nursing positions.
