Embedded Hardware Design Engineer

Position Summary:

Astr Defence is seeking a skilled and innovative Embedded Hardware Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role involves designing, developing, and integrating embedded hardware systems for cutting-edge defence technologies. You'll work closely with our mechanical and software teams to create robust solutions that drive the performance of our advanced weapon systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Hardware Design & Development : Design and develop embedded hardware systems, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and circuit design.
• Component Selection : Identify and select hardware components, sensors, and interfaces that meet system specifications.
• Firmware Development : Write and test firmware to control and interface with hardware components and sensors.
• Integration : Collaborate with the software team to deploy algorithms (e.g., computer vision) on hardware platforms and ensure seamless system integration.
• Testing & Validation : Perform rigorous testing, debugging, and validation to ensure reliability and optimal performance of electronic systems.
• Cross-Functional Coordination : Work closely with mechanical engineers, software developers, and manufacturing partners to drive projects from concept to production.
• Edge Computing Platforms : Implement solutions on edge devices like Nvidia Jetson for real-time performance.

Qualifications:

• Education : Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience : At least 2 years in embedded electronics hardware development, preferably in a new product development environment.
• Technical Expertise :
• Proficiency in Embedded C programming and firmware development.
• Experience with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, Eagle, KiCad).
• Hands-on experience with hardware testing tools like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
• Expertise in sensor integration and microcontroller interfacing.
• Familiarity with Nvidia Jetson devices or other edge computing platforms.
• Knowledge of communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, etc.).
• Preferred Skills :
• Experience in deploying machine learning/computer vision algorithms on embedded systems.
• Understanding of environmental considerations for defence applications (e.g., EMI/EMC, ruggedization).
