An EDP or IT helper, also known as an IT assistant, supports an organization's IT infrastructure and day-to-day IT activities. Their responsibilities include:
• User support Providing technical support to end-users, such as helping with logins, password resets, and basic troubleshooting
• Hardware maintenance Installing , configuring, and maintaining computer hardware, such as desktops, laptops, and printers
• Software support Installing , configuring, and updating software applications, and troubleshooting software-related issues
• Network assistance Configuring and maintaining local area networks (LANs), and troubleshooting basic network connectivity issues
• Documentation Maintaining accurate records of IT equipment, software licenses, and user accounts
• IT security Ensuring IT security
• Ongoing tasks Checking and proofreading content, data entry, database maintenance, and using printers and copiers
• Troubleshooting Troubleshooting technical and operational issues, such as those related to database management, networking, internet connectivity, and virtual meetings
• Responding to queries Responding to employee queries and requests
A graduate degree in computer science or a related technical certification is often preferred for this role.
