This position is with EAII Advisors, Evidence Action's technical partner in India.Position OverviewJob Title: Water Infrastructure EngineerEmployment Status: Consultant, 6 monthsPosition Location: New DelhiAbout the PositionWe are seeking a skilled and dedicated Water Infrastructure Engineer to join our India Safe Water team. In this role, you will be integral to the design, testing, and implementation of the In-Line Chlorination (ILC) technology, ensuring their efficiency and reliability. The Water Infrastructure Engineer will work closely with the Design Engineer and in-state field teams to develop and optimize safe water systems for rural and peri-urban water systems.EAII and the National Jal Jeevan Mission are conducting a project committed to providing safe water to all households. EAII is working with existing large infrastructure and complementing these systems with simple to assemble with local materials, easy-to-operate chlorination devices. We currently work in two states, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh on single village and multi-village water schemes.Our ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of different water infrastructure components such as pipe materials and compatibility, water supply (pumping and gravity-fed systems), pressure and flow rate, and water quality fluctuations. This role will follow the full product development cycle from prototyping technologies to launching and servicing safe water systems. The Water Infrastructure Engineer will provide engineering guidance to the Design Engineer and in-state teams to identify the right technology for the right site to provide clean and safe drinking water for thousands.You will be responsible for the installation and monitoring of ILC technologies, training state field staff on technical aspects of the project, drafting protocols and standard operating procedures, and facilitating the work of local plumbing, construction, and technical teams. Additionally, with your expertise, you will develop product recommendations, set up and monitor in-lab and field-testing rigs, and coordinate technical aspects of piloting devices and conduct comprehensive research on materials compatibility and water supply characteristics for ILC installations. You will collaborate closely with field staff to address device issues and ensure the accurate recording of test results and operational data.Responsibilities:Prototype and Launch Researches materials compatibility and water supply characteristics (ie pipe network, pressure, flow rate, water quality) to develop product recommendations Responsible for setting up testing rigs for in-lab and field testing of safe water chlorination programs Implements testing protocols and diligently records test results Implements technical pilot protocols for field testing Coordinates technical aspects of piloting devicesImplementation and Maintenance Responsible for installation and ensuring compliance of safe water systems Trains Regional Coordinators on all technical aspects of the project Contributes to drafting protocols and SOPs for testing and using safe water units Facilitates local plumbing, construction, and technicians for safe water systems Works with Regional Coordinators to diligently records and addresses device issues through the stateDisclaimer: the duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and that additional tasks may be assigned to the employee from time to time.RequirementsEssential Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies Bachelors degree in civil, mechanical, or environmental, or other related engineering or related technical field 5+ years of experience as an engineer (preferably for water related industries) Previous work experience with plumbing, designing or testing water infrastructure systems in India with a specific emphasis on rural water supply with single or multi-village water schemes Creative problem solver who is willing to dive deep into understanding root causes of issues Demonstrated experience researching water issues (ex. materials compatibility, water quality, climate change impacts, etc.). Develops conceptual models using computer flow modeling techniques to model flow through water technologies Proficiency in CAD or equivalent software to visualize 2D or 3D designs of water infrastructure. Proficiency in MATLAB or equivalent Ability to travel as per the project needs.
