Job Description

To become a transmission line draftsman, you need a combination of technical skills, qualifications, and knowledge related to drafting and design for power transmission lines. Below are the general requirements:

Educational Requirements:

• Diploma/Degree in Drafting or Engineering Design :
• A diploma in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or a specialized drafting/design course.
• Certifications in computer-aided design (CAD) software are highly beneficial.
• Understanding of Engineering Drawings :
• Basic knowledge of civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering principles relevant to transmission lines.

Technical Skills:

• CAD Proficiency :
• Expertise in software like AutoCAD, or similar tools for drafting designs.
• Knowledge of GIS :
• Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for planning and mapping transmission line routes.
• Transmission Line Design Standards :
• Awareness of industry standards like IEEE, ANSI, or IEC related to power transmission lines.
• Drafting Skills :
• Ability to create accurate and detailed technical drawings of transmission towers, poles, foundations, and Single Line Diagram.
• Software for Analysis :
• Exposure to PLS-CADD (Power Line Systems) or similar software for structural analysis is a plus.

Experience:

• Relevant Work Experience :
• Prior experience as a draftsman or design technician, particularly in the Transmission line projects.
• Apprenticeships or internships in transmission line projects are valuable.
• Field Knowledge :
• Understanding the terrain, material specifications, and challenges in transmission line installations.

Soft Skills:

• Attention to Detail :
• Ensuring all designs and specifications are precise and error-free.
• Team Collaboration :
• Working with engineers, surveyors, and project managers.
• Communication Skills :
• Clear and concise reporting of designs and technical specifications.

Physical and Regulatory Requirements:

• Compliance Knowledge :
• Familiarity with local and international regulations for electrical transmission infrastructure.

Additional Qualifications (Optional):

• Knowledge of Power Systems :
• Basic understanding of power distribution and high-voltage transmission concepts.
• Project Management Tools :
• Familiarity with tools like MS Project for coordinating design timelines.
