Position Summary:
The Speech & Theater Teacher will inspire and educate students in the art of communication and performance. This role involves teaching a variety of courses in speech, drama, and theater arts, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration among students. The teacher will guide students in developing their public speaking, acting, and performance skills while encouraging a passion for the performing arts.
Key Responsibilities:
• Curriculum Development:
• Design and implement a comprehensive curriculum that meets state standards and fosters students' skills in speech and theater.
• Create lesson plans that engage students and encourage their participation in class activities.
• Instruction:
• Teach courses in public speaking, theater performance, improvisation, and script analysis.
• Use diverse instructional strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
• Student Engagement:
• Encourage student participation in class discussions, performances, and presentations.
• Provide constructive feedback to students to help them improve their skills.
• Production Management:
• Oversee school theater productions, including auditions, rehearsals, and performances.
• Collaborate with students on set design, costume design, and technical aspects of productions.
• Assessment and Evaluation:
• Develop assessment tools to evaluate student progress and performance.
• Maintain accurate records of student achievements and areas for improvement.
• Community Engagement:
• Foster a positive classroom environment that promotes teamwork and respect.
• Encourage students to participate in community theater and speech competitions.
• Professional Development:
• Stay current with trends in theater and speech education through ongoing professional development.
• Attend workshops and conferences to enhance teaching practices.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Theater, Speech Communication, Education, or a related field.
• Experience in theater production, acting, or speech communication.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Passion for the arts and a commitment to fostering student growth.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and move theater equipment as needed.
• Willingness to work flexible hours for rehearsals and performances.
