Job Context: The purpose of this position is to provide scientific (50%) & strategic (50%) leadership in growing Biology capabilities for Drug Discovery Programs in various therapeutic areas in the organization. Education Qualification- PhD in Biology/ Biotechnology/ Pharmacology/ Genetics/ Molecular Biology or Life Sciences. Experience Range - 15+ Years post highest Qualification Accountabilities . Heading the Biology function and supporting the discovery projects and trouble shooting the Biology related problems during drug discovery. Driving the biology deliverables and be accountable for data quality and data turnaround. Heading and managing Biology lab to the therapeutic areas/projects. Delivering on internal and external stake holders milestones for JTIL by enabling high quality assays and ensuring data quality for drug discovery. Lead integrated discovery projects to deliver advanced leads and candidate drugs for internal and external stake holders Implementing guidelines for good lab practices in biology, building and expanding biology capabilities including new technology and other functional initiatives that span across the organization from the Discovery Biology perspective. Heading the drug discovery in Biology from target selection to clinical candidate selection. Managing the in vitro screening and validation, development and optimization of animal models for multiple therapeutic areas. Independent preparation and contribute to scientific publications, project reports/presentations. Effective lab management in order to manage the resources in an optimal manner and avoid the wastage. Providing cross functional leadership to the respective scientific platforms for preclinical screening and lead optimization, characterization of novel chemical entities as potential candidates for development. Handing both in in-house and collaborative projects with external partners. Building biology capabilities, and leading the other functional initiatives that span across the organization from the Discovery Biology perspective. Lead strategic initiatives to build novel technology platforms and disease area capabilities. Interfacing actively with internal and external stake holders to build collaborative partnerships Cross checking the data, reports etc. Capex and costing evaluation. preparation of future lab requirements and budgets Play strategic role in new technology/targets/therapy area initiatives. Should represent the department in project team meetings and give useful inputs for the project progress. Able to address the technical queries with proper scientific rationale Active interfacing with Business Development on scientific input and presentations. Delivering on internal and external stake holders milestones for the organization by enabling high quality assays/ Animal models and ensuring data quality for drug discovery. Lead biology Projects and assessing the Biology needs to the therapeutic area/projects and ensuring that those milestones are delivered in timely manner. Leading various integrated discovery projects ranging from hit selection, leading to pre-clinical candidate selection. Responsible for implementing guidelines for good lab practices in biology, building and expanding biology capabilities including new technology. Should be good in exploring scientific journals in order to find new ways/techniques to develop the assays in a robust and reproducible manner. Accountable for all internal stake holders and internal and external stake holders.
