Job Summary:

  • The Director, Revenue Cycle Credits, is responsible for overseeing all credit balance and refund operations within the revenue cycle. This role ensures timely and accurate reconciliation of patient and insurance credit balances, manages compliance with regulatory standards, and supports revenue integrity. The Director collaborates with finance, billing, and collections teams to streamline processes, improve workflows, and optimize cash flow.
Essential Functions and Tasks:
  • Credit Balance Management: Lead the analysis, identification, and resolution of credit balances on patient and payer accounts to minimize outstanding credits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Refund Oversight: Direct the refund process for patients and insurance companies, ensuring timely disbursement and accurate account adjustments.
  • Process Improvement: Develop, implement, and optimize credit management processes, utilizing automation tools and best practices to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations regarding credit balances and refunds, including Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance company requirements.
  • Financial Reporting: Oversee credit balance and refund reporting, providing regular updates to senior leadership on performance metrics, backlog status, and improvement efforts.
  • Team Leadership: Build and manage a high-performing team by recruiting, training, and mentoring credit specialists and analysts. Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with billing, collections, and finance departments to ensure credit balance practices support overall revenue cycle goals and strategies.
  • Audit Preparation: Prepare and manage credit balance accounts for internal and external audits, providing detailed documentation and addressing any findings to ensure continuous compliance.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilize data analytics to identify trends, detect discrepancies, and recommend process improvements. Generate routine and ad hoc reports to monitor the effectiveness of credit balance operations.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelorxe2x80x99s degree in Finance, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (Masterxe2x80x99s preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in revenue cycle management, with specific expertise in credit balance and refund operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proven leadership experience managing a team within a healthcare revenue cycle or financial services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations related to credit balances, patient refunds, and revenue cycle compliance.
  • Proficiency in revenue cycle software and financial management tools; experience with automation solutions preferred.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and influence process improvements across departments.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply state/federal laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful, mature, and professional manner.
  • Ability to remain flexible and work within a collaborative and fast paced environment.
  • Basic use of computer, telephone, internet, copier, fax, and scanner.
  • Basic touch 10 key skills.
  • Basic Math skills.
  • Understand and comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel (pivot tables), and database software skills.
