Basic
The Deputy General Manager (DGM) Mechanical for a distillery is responsible for overseeing and managing all mechanical engineering activities within the distillery. This includes ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical equipment and systems. The DGM Mechanical will work closely with other departments to ensure the smooth and efficient production of spirits, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Maintenance Management:
Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program for all mechanical equipment.
Ensure timely and effective repair and maintenance of machinery to minimize downtime.
Coordinate with the maintenance team to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues promptly.
2. Operations Management:
Oversee the mechanical operations of the distillery, ensuring optimal performance of all equipment.
Monitor and control mechanical processes to ensure efficient and cost-effective production.
Collaborate with production managers to meet production targets and improve operational efficiency.
3. Project Management:
Plan and execute mechanical engineering projects, including installation of new equipment and upgrades to existing systems.
Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources effectively.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety standards during project execution.
4. Team Leadership:
Lead, mentor, and develop the mechanical engineering team.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to team members.
5. Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all mechanical operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
Implement corrective actions to address any safety or compliance issues.
6. Vendor and Stakeholder Management:
Manage relationships with equipment suppliers and service providers.
Negotiate contracts and service agreements to ensure cost-effective procurement of parts and services.
Coordinate with external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities and auditors.
7. Technical Support:
Provide technical expertise and support to other departments, including production, quality control, and procurement.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in mechanical engineering and distillery technologies.
Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance mechanical operations.
Qualifications and Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 5 years in a managerial role within a distillery or similar industry.
• Strong knowledge of distillery operations, mechanical systems, and maintenance practices.
• Proven experience in project management and leading engineering teams.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in using maintenance management software and other relevant engineering tools.
• Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to the distillery industry.
• Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Familiarity with automation and control systems used in distillery operations.
• Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) or maintenance management (e.g., CMRP).
