You must have the legal right to work in India at the time of application. There is no relocation or sponsorship support.

Role purpose
As a Designer, you will play a key role in delivering our user-centred design strategy and vision for digital products and experiences. You will deliver high-quality design experiences by applying your knowledge and experience in at least one of the following design disciplines: user experience, content or visual design, to meet the business needs of the British Council.

Working closely within your team, colleagues and stakeholders, you will translate business objectives into user-centred design solutions with a focus on driving innovation and ensuring exceptional user experiences.

You will collaborate with in cross-functional teams operating a globally to deliver innovative user-centric design solutions. You will work on projects and ensure our designs are grounded in research and user feedback to put our users needs, motivations and interaction patterns at the heart of all we do.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Product/Programme/Service Delivery
  • Ensure digital design principles, methodologies, and industry standards are met.
  • Delivery of design objectives in at least one of the following design disciplines: user experience, content design or visual design.
  • Collaborate with product management teams to define product requirements, features, and user stories based on market and customer insights.
  • Provide design guidance and advice to cross-functional teams, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality design solutions.
  • Act as a design advocate, championing user-centred design principles and promoting the value of good design within the organisation.
  • Embed research and insight into the design process to ensure our design solutions are genuinely user centred.
  • Utilise data analytics and performance metrics to measure the impact of design initiatives on key business metrics and make data-driven decisions.
  • Support innovation in design across a range of digital platforms, products and services.
  • Contribute to the development of our design / interaction patterns into a global library
  • Ensure inclusive design is embedded in all our design solutions

Relationship & Stakeholder Management
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across Digital and Technology, and other functions such as Product Management and Marketing.
  • Facilitate open communication channels, ensuring alignment of goals, expectations, and support for design initiatives.
  • Work with stakeholders, providing insight into the principles and benefits of an enterprise-level focus on British Council audiences and user-centred design methodology
  • Identify areas for improvement in the digital experience through user research, data analysis, and feedback mechanisms.
  • Implement design solutions to address user pain points, enhance usability, and optimise the overall digital experience.
  • Foster innovation by staying updated with the latest design trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, ensuring that the organisation remains competitive in the digital landscape.
  • Provide digital upskilling consultancy for internal teams and promote a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in design.


Requirements of the role:
Minimum/essential
  • Proven experience: Demonstrable experience in at least one digital design discipline demonstrating a track record of successfully delivering design projects.
  • User-centred design knowledge: Solid understanding of user-centred design principles, methodologies, and practices, with experience conducting user research, creating personas, and designing user flows and/or content design.
  • Collaboration and communication: Excellent collaboration and communication skills to effectively interact with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and clients, translating business requirements into effective design solutions.
  • Data-driven decision making: Experience in leveraging data and analytics to drive design decisions, using qualitative and quantitative research methods to gather insights and optimise designs.
  • UX research skills: Experience in planning and conducting usability testing, and other UX research methods to inform design decisions and identify areas for improvement.
  • Industry knowledge: Awareness of emerging design trends, technologies, and industry advancements, keeping up with the evolving digital landscape and incorporating innovative ideas into design strategies
  • Technical proficiency: Knowledge and ability to use design software such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD), content management, prototyping tools, and an understanding of front-end development technologies.
  • Written and verbal proficiency (CEF 1) in English is required.
  • Continuous learning through online courses, workshops, and industry conferences to stay updated with emerging technologies and design trends
