#### Job Purpose


To Organize, monitor & ensure execution of preventive & regular maintenance and various projects of civil infrastructure for the plant as well as the colony so as to ensure effective availability of all civil infrastructure within the allotted budget

Chlor-Alkali Business in India has eight manufacturing locations: Grasim Chemical Division Nagda (M.P.), Grasim Chemical Division, Vilayat (Gujarat), Aditya Birla Nuvo, Veraval (Gujarat), Grasim Chemical Division, Rehla (Jharkhand), Grasim Chemical Division, Renukoot, Grasim Chemical Division, Karwar, Grasim Chemical Division, Ganjam (Odisha) and Grasim Chemical Division, BB Puram, Kakinada. ABG Chlor-Alkali Business (India) is headed by SBU Head. The Eight units put together are one of the largest manufacturers of Caustic Soda in India with an installed capacity of about 2450 TPD Caustic Soda and 2100 TPD Chlorine/Hydrochloric Acid.

The Grasim Chemical Division, Ganjam (Odisha) is manufacturing unit of Caustic Soda which has recently been acquired by the Chemical Business of the Aditya Birla Group and formally known as Jayshree Chemicals Ltd. At Grasim Chemical Division, Ganjam (Odisha), the present capacity of caustic soda is 250 TPD. Chemicals Business is largest producer of Chlor Alkali in India with a market share of approx. 23%. It is currently the dominant player in the Industry and the challenge is to maintain its dominance and increase market share to 30%. To attain market share of 30%, business is formulating aggressive growth plans which includes brown field expansions at existing unit locations, Green field projects and identifying the opportunities for merger

Major Challenges :

1.Maintenance of very old civil structures in plant and colony

2.High degree of safety management during construction activity

3.Getting competent contractors and skilled manpower to carry out civil jobs within time frame and allocated budget.

4.Initiatives towards monitoring and keeping tracking of abnormalities to get closed in minimum time.

5.Incident management, safety improvement projects and developing a good workplace safety and sustainability culture and to groom it up, require eagle-eyes view, whole hearted efforts and prompt action.

Supporting Actions

• Plant Maintenance: Plan, monitor & control the maintenance activities of Civil Infrastructure for the entire plant
• Ensure stability of buildings, structures and other infrastructure by regular inspection, analysis, planning and implementing required rectification
• Monitor team, work progress so as they meet the requirements
• Interact with consultants, architects, vendors for technical discussion, freezing specifications and order placements
• Interact with internal customers and understand their needs
• Scrutinize & verify contractor bills for correctness
• Follow up with Stores & Purchase for timely availability of required items
• Townships & School Management: Plan, monitor & control the development and maintenance activities of townships for effective availability of all civil infra-structure within the allotted budget
• Ensure the stability of the buildings, structures & other required infrastructures of township by periodic inspection, analysis, planning and implementing required rectification
• Maintain the critical services like water supply, sanitary and drainage system
• Ensure timely and smooth maintenance services like painting, carpentry, masonry, plumbing and sanitation to the residents of the township
• Regularly take up development, improvement and beautification work in the township like children's park, hostels, guest house, gymnasium, mess etc.
• Assist and facilitate recreational and cultural activities
• Civil Projects & Schemes (If Any) & Improvement Projects:

Administer, monitor & control the Civil Projects & Schemes to attain the organizations overall objective and identify and implement various projects & schemes to enhance life of civil construction in stipulated time and within allotted budget





• Coordinate with consultants/ architects for civil design, estimation, schedule & for stability certificate
• Ensure timely preparation of civil estimation for various projects & schemes as per the requirement of project team and other functions for project evaluations
• Ensure planning & execution of civil construction projects identified for implementation within scheduled time & budgeted cost for all
• Conduct analysis of present designs and development of cost effective & efficient designs for structural components
• Finalize major contractors for various jobs on site
• Plan, schedule and co-ordinate with Site Engineers of all sites in terms of construction with the best quality standards, efficient material management and best accounting practices which includes proper inventory management, waste reduction, material reconciliation and proper utilization
• Develop and facilitate the completion of the project with set quality, cost, time and safety and ensuring the project delivery
• Perform debottlenecking of construction problem by interaction with suppliers, consultants, architects' contractors and project team
• Planning & Budgeting, Cost Control and improvements


Check for maintenance expenditure to be within budgeted norms and plan and implement execution of improvement actions for cost optimization



• Compare maintenance expenses on monthly basis and compare actual expenses against budget and take action to reduce variants
• Suggest and implement measures in design/ modification for cost reduction
• Carry out analysis for the consumption of spares and make action plan for optimized consumption
• Assist in data collection to identify opportunities and bottlenecks
• Manage the inventory at an optimized level to minimize the working capital while ensuring the plant requirements and risks are addressed
• Interact with vendors, contractors, OEM suppliers for technical discussions to freeze technical specification & scope of supply for procurement at optimum cost
• Provide inputs to the DH/FH in Planning& Budgeting for the Section
• MIS Reports and Documentation: Ensure timely update of all documents of the section
• Timely preparation of MIS report and all relevant documents
• Ensure update of documents as per ISO and related
• Assist and get timely audits done in the section
• System Management (Safety, Sustainability & WCM): Implement and adhere to statutory compliance related to Safety, Health and Environment & Sustainability and systems like IMS, WCM and ISO


Supervise & monitor quality systems (ISO, EMS, WCM, OHSAS, ICSA)



• Monitor quality systems in the section for improving performance as per quality and environmental standards.
• Implement IMS 9001, 14001, 50001, SA 8000, OHSAS 18001 & WCM practices & other systems in the Section
• Monitor daily abnormalities & take corrective action and implement counter measures recommended during audits
• Implement periodic sustainability audits as directed by Sustainability Cell and other audits
• Implement corrective action as reported in audits
• Monitor implementation of processes for accident-free operations/ Maintenance and compliance of all safety requirements as stipulated by the Factories Act & environment related statutory requirements
• Monitor adherence to safety norms & safe operational procedures
• Facilitate statutory testing of vessels
• Train the team to handle emergency situations like Liquid Chlorine leakages etc. under Disaster Management activities
• Maintain compliance to effluent norms set by pollution board
• Ensure safe working conditions & practices and implementation of safety procedures, audit point's measures & ensure training on safety measures
• Comply with factory, boiler, and environmental related statutory requirements
• Encourage employees for participation in Kaizen, Suggestion Scheme, etc. and ensure implementation of audit findings


• People Development :

Maintain a congenial work culture by effective management of people to improve productivity, growth & motivation levels of employees to institutionalize best organizing practices in the Unit
• Set SMART performance targets & KRAs
• Maintain discipline and grievance handling staff and workmen and other subordinates
• Inculcate in team the group values/policies/ vision/ mission & objectives
• Motivate employees for stretch targets through team building and two-way communication
• Co-ordinate with HR Team for monitoring the development of FLEs, staff and workmen
• Recommend trainings for skill development and ensure development of team members
• Proactively train engineers/FLOs/subordinates
• Implement HR practices and maintain shop floor discipline
• Provide technical support to team on various issues
• Monitor the deployment of manpower resources, with the intention of controlling OT without affecting the smooth running of plant
• Take lead for multi skilling by deploying manpower for task-oriented jobs
