About the role

The Data Scientist - Blasting Analytics CoE provides specialist analytical support and generates insights using Orica, customer, and third-party data to enable Orica to sustainably create value.

What you will be doing

Visibly demonstrating a commitment to Orica's value of 'Safety is our priority' Adhering to Orica's Global Operating Procedures. Work closely with specialist to understand analytics needs, including critical metrics and KPIs, and deliver actionable insights to relevant decision-makers Define and implement data acquisition and integration logic, selecting an appropriate combination of methods and tools within the defined technology stack to ensure optimal scalability and performance of the solution Perform data cleansing, and data quality assessments to maintain data integrity. Analyse blast measurements data against a baseline, develops customized tools and analytics capabilities to support delivery of outcomes. Identify valuable data sources and automate collection processes and undertake preprocessing of structured and unstructured data Analyse data to discover trends and patterns, build predictive models using machine-learning algorithms, testing, evaluation and deployment. Create and maintain rich interactive visualizations through data interpretation and analysis, with reporting components from multiple data sources for internal and external stakeholder groups. Complete User Acceptance Testing in preparation for insight

What you will bring

Tertiary qualification required, preferably in Engineering, Science (Computer/Data Science) or equivalent. Minimum 8 years' experience post professional qualification in data science field preferably focused on Azure platform. Proven analytics skills, including data mining, evaluation, and visualization Experience with data analysis including machine learning algorithm, predictive model building, testing, evaluation metrics and model deployment Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, PySpark and SQL. Strong knowledge in statistics Knowledge of Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure ML other Azure services such as Azure DevOps, Azure Storage, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory etc. Highly advantageous: Understanding of minerals and mining industry measurement tools and data. Demonstrates courage, models resilience and flexibility. Possess unquestioned reputation for integrity, ethics, personal values, and solid character. Builds the trust of others. Strong stakeholder management, interpersonal and communication skills. Self-aware and open to feedback. Strong attention to detail, with a high level of accuracy, integrity, and accountability. High level decision making and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated, well organized, and logical, with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
