The Role

We are looking for a Data Expert in Water Sector Analytics with at least 5 years experience to support an Australian government-funded project working with the Government of India to implement its national AMRUT 2.0 Mission and help in our growing water consulting business. You will be working closely with Arups global pool of experienced engineers, planners and specialists to deliver water and wastewater projects in India.

This is a client-facing role and base location will be the ministry premises in New Delhi, on a day-to-day basis. A fixed-term contract, initially one-year, will be offered with the option to extend for up to two years based on performance and program needs. There will be opportunity for the right person to accelerate their career within Arup.

Responsibilities

Your tasks will include, but are not limited to:

Analysis of large data sets at national level to support decision making and drive project outcomes. Creation of impactful visualizations, graphics and charts to articulate key findings clearly.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate findings in a concise and persuasive manner that can be used by a range of decision-makers. Work on any task assigned, including best practice reviews, reports, and other documentation including case studies, tools, policy reviews, etc.

Working closely with team in India as well as with officials and counterparts at central government ministry, state, and city level government agencies and their vendors and collaborators and with our global team to support the delivery of the ongoing project outcomes as part of the technical assistance.

Understanding of Indian urban water and wastewater programs and policies with timely delivery of outputs.

Key Requirements and Personal Skills:

  • Undergraduate/Post graduate qualifications in relevant field. Certificates in software skills are advantageous with minimum of 5 years of experience undertaking quantitative analysis, data repository management, MIS for utilities, spatial analysis for urban sector projects/ Missions/programs.
  • Excellent data interrogation aptitude and research skills using MS Excel/ MS Power point / MS Access/ SAS/ SQL/ Python/ R, spatial analysis packages like GIS, and data visualization packages like Power BI, etc and Ability to analyze raw data and translate findings to draw strategic observations and conclusions.
  • Experience working on data relating to urban water supply and sewerage infrastructure projects, ground and surface water, socio-economic aspects of cities, etc. an advantage and ability to present analysis in a dynamic, clear and persuasive manner.
  • Should be self-starter and able to work autonomously to develop concepts/analytical frameworks/dashboards and review IT related technical documentation.
  • Experience working with national/state/city government organizations/ international agencies with good understanding of national, state and city development priorities, projects, policy frameworks.
  • Strong technical understanding of water and/or wastewater projects in urban India and experience in spatial analysis using GIS in water sector or other utilities are advantageous and working knowledge of relevant standards, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines a plus.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including senior bureaucrats.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, prioritise tasks, and be responsive to emerging requests.
  • Professional level fluency in in English and Hindi. Any additional Indian languages is a value add.
