Role Purpose As Data Analytics Support Engineer, you will ensure that applications for delivering services in Data and Analytics are properly supported and administrated to achieve utmost user and stakeholder satisfaction. You will work with global stakeholders, across Corporate Finance, Data Evidence and Performance, and English & Exams teams.
In this role, you will ensure that maintenance activities and minor changes are delivered in an appropriate manner.
You will support the team that does the core development through maintaining and optimising Azure-based data infrastructure, monitoring data pipeline, maintaining data-solution day-in day out, trouble-shooting and fixing issues, maintaining system health and setting up ETL/ELT operations.
Role Context The Digital and Technology Directorate leads the British Councils digital strategy and transformation. It creates and executes technology initiatives to fulfil the organisations mission and corporate priorities.
Key focus areas are:
Creating digital products that attract and retain customers, delivering business value through digital design and delivery expertise.
Developing and optimising digital platforms that provide seamless customer interactions and use scalable and secure capabilities.
Enhancing digital capability across the organisation.
Enabling growth, impact and efficiency through technology.
Digital and Technology is a global Directorate organised into four divisions: Product, Engineering, Operations and Performance which collectively create digital products and services, maintain, and improve products, services and platforms and optimise performance. Areas of responsibility include digital and technology strategy, architecture, infrastructure, software, development, data, innovation, and cybersecurity. It ensures that technology initiatives are customer and value focused, accessible, efficient, and secure.
The Operations division is accountable for the continuing delivery of secure, performant enterprise platforms and applications and the connectivity and modern workplace environment to access those platforms. This is achieved through partnerships with external suppliers and delivery through ITIL based processes. The unit is also responsible for transitioning new products and services into the live environment. It interfaces across the Digital and Technology departments, Suppliers and Managed Services.
Main Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Monitor data processes and jobs within Microsoft data landscape, which includes Synapse pipelines, Power BI processes and Fabric jobs.
Ensure user accounts and relevant security policies are implemented and monitored for potential issues.
Implement efficient use of cloud resources by working directly with internal customers, to ensure they are using services in an optimal way, provide analysis and prediction of cloud costs within the Microsoft Data Environment.
Talk business users/ British Council teams through a series of actions, over the telephone, through emails or Teams, to help resolve issues or help them to understand the different ways in which they can make smart use of British Council applications.
Troubleshoot basic system and network problems, diagnose and solve software/user specific issues; point of escalation for complex issues, gathering further information and referring to third parties as necessary.
Support the roll-out of new capabilities, such as in the areas of machine learning and data science.
Regularly interact with the internal and external support teams to update on support issues and on performance, and to understand the current development/release plans of systems.
Develop good working relationships with appropriate colleagues throughout British Council and to know who to engage with to enable effective implementation of procedural changes and improvements.
Build a network of external suppliers/providers/contacts to support effective service provision and knowledge exchange.
Plan and prioritise work activities to a small team to ensure effective delivery, which includes allocating tickets and monitoring progress.

Role specific knowledge and experience required Minimum/essential
Demonstrable experience in supporting Data and Analytics systems, preferably in a global corporate environment (service desk).
Experience of Microsoft Data and Analytics capabilities (such as Synapse, Data Factory, Azure Monitoring tools, Azure Cost analysis).
Experience of guiding and coaching business users on technical problems through resolution.
Familiarity with Power BI (build reports, dashboards, building data models/data flow/ data marts).
Proven track record of taking ownership and supporting change.
Education/ Professional Qualification and Certification
Microsoft Azure Synapse (desirable).
Microsoft Power BI and Fabric (desirable).
