Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Dance Instruction:

Teach various styles of dance (such as ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, cultural, and modern dance) appropriate to the age and skill level of students.

Curriculum Development:

Create lesson plans that align with school standards, balancing technique, performance, theory, and history of dance.

Choreography:

Choreograph routines for school performances, assemblies, competitions, and special events.

Student Development:

Foster a supportive environment where all students feel encouraged to express themselves and grow their talents.

Classroom Management:

Maintain a safe, organized, and positive dance studio or classroom environment.

Assessment:

Evaluate student progress through observation, performances, and projects, and provide constructive feedback.

Cultural Education:

Introduce students to different dance traditions and styles from around the world to promote cultural understanding.

Collaboration:

Work with other teachers, especially music and drama departments, to coordinate performances and integrated arts projects.

Professional Growth:

Stay informed on current dance trends, techniques, and education strategies through continued professional development.

Supervision:

Organize and supervise rehearsals, after-school practices, and student participation in performances and competitions.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Dance, Performing Arts, Dance Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred for some schools).

Certification:

Teaching certification may be required, depending on the school or district.

Experience:

Prior teaching or professional dance experience is highly desirable.
