A hospital customer service representative (CSR) or healthcare customer care representative (CCR) provides customer support to patients, vendors, insurance companies, and other medical facilities. Their responsibilities may include:
• Answering phones: Handling 100-200 calls per day
• Screening calls: Routing calls to other departments
• Responding to questions: Providing information to customers and resolving complaints
• Scheduling appointments: Rescheduling patient appointments
• Administrative duties: Completing patient intake paperwork, sending and receiving correspondence, data entry, and maintaining referral files
• Reviewing documents: Ensuring documents have the correct information for billing purposes
• Communicating with insurance companies: Handling prior authorization requests
• Entering patient information: Entering patient information into a customer information system
• Advising customers: Providing information about plans based on customer needs, and outlining information regarding co-payments
