Position Title : IVF Counsellor
Department : Fertility and Reproductive Health
Location : Arokya Hospital
Reports to : Clinic Manager/Head of Fertility Services
Job Summary :
The IVF Counsellor provides emotional, psychological, and informational support to individuals and couples undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. The role involves guiding patients through the emotional complexities of fertility treatments, helping them manage stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges. The IVF Counsellor also offers pre-treatment and post-treatment counseling to ensure the emotional well-being of patients throughout their fertility journey.
Key Responsibilities :
• Pre-treatment Counseling :
• Assess patients' emotional and psychological readiness for IVF treatment.
• Provide information about the IVF process, including its risks, benefits, and potential emotional impacts.
• Offer guidance and support regarding treatment options, including donor egg/sperm and surrogacy.
• Conduct individual or couple counseling sessions to address fears, anxieties, and expectations.
• Emotional Support During IVF Treatment :
• Provide ongoing emotional and psychological support to patients throughout the IVF cycle.
• Offer coping strategies for stress management and emotional resilience during fertility treatments.
• Provide counseling related to potential complications, such as treatment failure, and offer support for any emotional or psychological challenges arising.
• Post-treatment Counseling :
• Offer counseling to patients after embryo transfer, including guidance on early pregnancy signs or negative outcomes (miscarriage, failed cycle, etc.).
• Support patients during the post-treatment phase, particularly in cases of unsuccessful IVF attempts.
• Conduct grief and loss counseling for patients who experience pregnancy loss or other negative outcomes.
• Facilitating Group Counseling :
• Conduct group counseling sessions for patients undergoing IVF, offering a platform for shared experiences and support.
• Lead fertility support groups for patients, focusing on coping mechanisms and mutual encouragement.
• Confidentiality and Documentation :
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, ensuring adherence to clinic policies and ethical guidelines.
• Provide written reports and recommendations to the medical team as needed, ensuring communication of relevant psychological information for patient care.
• Collaboration with Medical Team :
• Work closely with fertility specialists, nurses, and other healthcare providers to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
• Attend team meetings to discuss patient care plans and provide insights related to emotional health.
• Education and Awareness :
• Stay updated on current developments in the field of fertility treatment and counseling techniques.
• Provide educational resources to patients about managing emotions, stress, and coping with infertility.
• Patient Advocacy :
• Act as a patient advocate, ensuring that patient needs are heard and supported, especially in sensitive situations such as treatment failure or multiple IVF cycles.
Qualifications :
• Educational Requirements :
• Master's degree or higher in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
• Certification or specialized training in fertility counseling is highly desirable.
• Experience :
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in counseling or psychological support, preferably in a fertility or reproductive health setting.
• Previous experience working with individuals or couples undergoing IVF or other assisted reproductive technologies is preferred.
• Skills :
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and trust with patients.
• Empathy, sensitivity, and emotional intelligence in dealing with fertility-related emotional challenges.
• Ability to handle confidential information and maintain professional ethics.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to offer practical coping strategies.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Pay: ?8,458.64 - ?25,000.00 per month
