They can also recognize other health problems and refer patients to the right specialist. - Performs surgery- Ophthalmologists perform a variety of surgical procedures, including repairing injuries, removing cataracts, and laser surgery. - Prescribes and fits- Ophthalmologists prescribe and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses to correct vision problems.
