Consultant- Urological Surgeon



Conceptualized in the year 2004 as a philanthropic initiative for the Eastern and North-Eastern


parts of India and the neighboring countries, the Tata Medical Center (TMC) started operations in


Kolkata on May 16, 2011. The hospital is governed by a charitable trust - Tata Medical Centre Trust.


It is an integrated Oncology facility with well-trained professional staff and equipped with modern


facilities and the most contemporary medical equipment. The Hospital, with a capacity of 437 beds,


serves all sections of the society, with 75% of the infrastructure earmarked for subsidized


treatment for the underprivileged sections. It provides a wide spectrum of services from diagnosis


and therapy to rehabilitation and palliative support. The Institution's objective is to excel in service,


education and research.





The Department of Uro-Oncology aims to offer evidence based protocolized treatment of all


Urological cancers. There is particular emphasis on Minimal Access Surgery (Robotics &


Laparoscopy) with more than 100 such procedures done per year.




The department offers full range of diagnostic and therapeutic options for all Urological cancers. It


runs the largest superficial bladder cancer surveillance programme in the region. It has the latest


simultaneous biplanar US scanner for prostate biopsy and Urodynamics system. It has excellent


support from Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Radiology, Pathology, Microbiology,


Biochemistry and Intensive care and other surgical specialties.





The hospital has an excellent electronic medical records (EMR) system making data


analysis/retrieval easy. There is a dedicated Surgical ICU, HDU and Surgical ward. The department


is supported by excellent theatre facilities with the best open, endoscopic and laparoscopic


equipment. The theatres boast of positive pressure laminar air flow, HEPA filter, sophisticated


anaesthetic equipments, state-of-the-art operating lights and tables, PACS, vessel sealing devices,


intra-operative ultrasonography and facilities for frozen section biopsy.





The Robotic surgery programme has commenced at TMC since 2017. There is a Da Vinci

Robotic Si system with a teaching console and skills simulator. The Urology department has

taken the lead in the robotic surgical programme .





The department has a strong MDT approach to management of all patients. Participation in MDT is


mandatory.

Experience Minimum 1 yr of experience after post Uro-oncology


graduation in Core urology

Job responsibilities:

To provide an Uro-oncology service, in collaboration with other medical, nursing and


technical staff.?

? Teaching of Junior Medical Staff, Nurses and other professionals.?


? To provide supervision and training to Junior Hospital Doctors.?

? To participate in clinical audit, evidence-based practice and Clinical Governance within the


Department.?
