The Opportunity
At Worldline, our technology addresses persistent challenges of the payment world. We design and operate leading digital payment and transactional solutions that enable sustainable economic growth and reinforce trust and security in our societies. The Linux System Administrator is responsible for the provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of Linux systems, hardware and software. He/she participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure, ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures are up to date and support our business requirements.
He/she will assist project teams with technical issues and be able to participate in different business projects as technical expert, or to propose choices between different solutions. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy, taking into account budgetary aspect and the adherence to the standards.
He/she takes care of maintaining the high availability of our online payment systems by putting in place robust and up to date solutions, assuring special care when applying changes, and respecting the change management process in place. .
Day-to-Day Responsibilities System Operating tasks:
Participation to business or infrastructure projects
Support of daily operations (using our standard ticketing tool SNOW)
Install new servers, rebuild existing servers, configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
Contribute to the development and the maintenance of our system standards.
Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
Install, configure and maintain middleware linked with operating systems as Apache, Jboss, and Tomcat.
Operations and Support:
Perform daily system availability checks, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Perform regular security monitoring to check that all mechanisms put in place send their information to the central logger, adapt server configuration to regulations (e.g. PCI)
Investigate and troubleshoot system-related issues.
Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted bodies, notably by publishing incident reports.
Maintenance:
Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
Who Are We Looking For

Bachelor (3-year) degree or equivalent, with a technical background, such as engineering or computer science.
Linux Red Hat and CentOS knowledge is mandatory.
Networking knowledge is a plus.
Knowledge in Apache, Jboss or Tomcat is a plus.
Positive attitude for problem solving; must be able to deal with a variety of problems and to propose different solutions, determining which one is best.
Team-work capability is essential, as is spontaneous sharing of information, both towards colleagues and towards management. Must be able to comply with the reporting rules in place.
Good communication skills; must be able to interpret and exchange information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; and also to provides occasional technical guidance.
Must be able to work into an international environment in which standards have been put in place.
Regularly provide advices and recommend actions involving rather complex issues. May resolve problems within established practices.
Must be able to express himself (oral and written) in English, in addition to French or Dutch.
Passive knowledge of the other official Belgian language is a plus, or will have to be acquired on the job otherwise.
Must be able to use the standard office tools available within the company: portable PC running MS Windows and the MS Office suite.
Be on call (in a duty role shared with colleagues) to support our systems and business on a 24/7 basis.
Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends.
