We are seeking for a compliance Specialist as the role supports implementation of global policies, and other procedures across the Smith+Nephew businesses in India and Export Markets. The role will focus on supporting the effective functioning of compliance controls relating to third parties and will conduct training and monitoring of third parties to ensure compliance with Smith & Nephew standards and to detect potential risks. The role will additionally support the effective functioning of key compliance controls relating to interactions with Healthcare Professionals, including reviewing proposals for HCP consulting, education, and training. All assessments to be conducted in accordance with local laws, codes and Company policies. The role will be in Mumbai/Pune and will require extensive travel to Company offices and field visits. The role reports into the Senior Compliance Director Emerging Markets.What you will be doing?

  • Supports the Sr. Compliance Director in ensuring the effective functioning of the Global Compliance Program.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments for the direct markets, distributors, and the vendors. Develop risk mitigation plan and ensure effective implementation of the mitigation plan. Partners with business team to understand third party strategy and ensures compliance risks are considered and mitigated.
  • Takes the lead for third party related compliance activities in market including assessing due diligence reports, identifying and addressing red flags, making recommendation on the use of third parties, and ensuring that third parties are processed in line with company policy prior to engagement by the business.
  • Supports the preparation of local procedures based on global policies and in ensuring that all procedures are communicated regularly to applicable employees. Works closely with global Third-Party Compliance team to ensure local practices relating to Third Parties align with global standard process.
  • Training, Education and Communication (employees): Conducts compliance trainings for employees, including new hire on-boarding, role specific training, refresher and issue-based training. Track and record delivery of training and communications.
  • Training, Education and Communication (third parties): Partners with the Sr. Director to develop and implements annual training, education and communication plans for third parties which take into account unique factors relating to groups of third parties. Track and record delivery of training and communications.
  • Conducts site visits and assessments of third parties in accordance with an annual plan and on an ad hoc basis as required. Develops appropriate and consistent corrective actions and ensures closure of the action plan in a timely manner.
  • Investigations: Assists in investigations to the extent requested. Ensures investigative processes are followed.
  • Monitoring: Completes local monitoring programs where required designed to test the efficiency and implementation of compliance controls in market.
  • Corrective & Preventive Action: Drives timely completion of corrective and preventive actions for Smith & Nephew and third-party businesses in the region.
  • Supports the effective functioning of key compliance controls relating to interactions with Healthcare Professionals, including reviewing and providing mentorship on proposals for HCP consulting, education, and training. All assessments to be conducted in accordance with local laws, codes, and Company policies. Supports the Sr. Compliance Director in conducting quarterly Compliance Committee meetings.
What you need to be successful?
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required (Professional degree or Legal degree is helpful) Preferably Chartered Accountant or MBA - Finance.
  • Should have a proven 3-4 years of demonstrated experience working in compliance programme within a business. This experience should preferably include dynamic responsibility.
  • Exposure in field of Compliance in Healthcare industry preferably Medical Devices. The individual will involve extensive travel within the market.
  • Project management skills. Ability to follow through and complete tasks on time.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong ability to communicate sophisticated topics in concise terms.
  • Ability to communicate concisely and persuasively in writing as well as the ability to draft clear and effective reports, policies etc. Ability to manage conflicting priorities and deliver on time.
  • Self- motivated and result- driven.
  • Strong analytical skills. Ability to persuade through positive communication.
  • Ability to detect risk areas and red flags. Solution-minded; desire to tackle problems. Effective collaborator engagement, management and business partnering. Ability to provide clear, pertinent, and timely advice to business.
