: Project Co-Ordinator (IEC) for Waste Management Project

Position Title: Project Co-Ordinator (IEC) Location : Sancoale, South Goa Reports To : Program Manager Employment Type : Full-time

Position Overview:

The Project Co-Ordinator (IEC) will play a key role in designing, implementing, and overseeing communication strategies for a waste management project aimed at raising awareness, changing behaviors, and engaging communities in sustainable waste management practices. The primary focus of this role is to ensure effective communication and outreach activities that support project objectives, with a focus on education, awareness campaigns, and community engagement to drive positive environmental outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public communications, social behavior change, and environmental education. The IEC Manager will be responsible for developing impactful communication materials, facilitating community outreach programs, and monitoring and evaluating the success of IEC activities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategy Development & Planning:

Develop and implement a comprehensive IEC strategy and work plan to support the waste management project's objectives, including awareness-raising campaigns, educational programs, and community outreach activities.

Identify target audiences (e.g., community members, schools, businesses, local authorities) and tailor IEC materials and messages to effectively reach them.

Collaborate with project management and technical teams to align IEC strategies with project milestones, goals, and key deliverables.

Work closely with Panchayat/ULB representatives in developing IEC strategies as well as provide technical support to them.

2. Communication Materials & Content Development:

Design and produce a variety of IEC materials, including flyers, brochures, posters, videos, social media content, infographics, and radio jingles, to promote waste management best practices.

Develop and oversee the creation of culturally appropriate and accessible materials for diverse audiences, ensuring that content is clear, engaging, and impactful.

Lead the development of public service announcements, print, digital, and broadcast media campaigns to raise awareness about waste segregation, recycling, waste reduction, and composting.

3. Community Engagement & Outreach:

Lead and organize community-based education initiatives, such as workshops, seminars, and school programs, to promote waste management behaviors like recycling, composting, and waste reduction.

Coordinate outreach activities, such as door-to-door campaigns, public meetings, and community mobilization events, to encourage active participation in waste management programs.

Build and maintain partnerships with local community groups, schools, NGOs, and other stakeholders to amplify IEC messages and promote sustainable waste management practices.

Engage with community leaders and influencers to act as champions of waste management initiatives.

4. Social Behavior Change Communication (SBCC):

Develop and implement social behavior change campaigns that promote sustainable waste management practices, focusing on changing attitudes and behaviors related to waste disposal, recycling, and waste reduction.

Utilize participatory communication methods (e.g., focus groups, surveys) to understand community attitudes, knowledge, and challenges regarding waste management.

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of IEC activities, adjusting strategies as needed to improve engagement and outcomes.

5. Media Relations & Public Awareness:

Serve as the primary point of contact for media relations related to the project, including drafting press releases, arranging interviews, and responding to media inquiries.

Coordinate media campaigns to raise awareness of the project and its objectives, working with local, regional, and national media outlets.

Leverage digital platforms (website, social media) to share key messages, promote success stories, and engage a wider audience in the waste management initiative.

6. Monitoring & Evaluation:

Develop and implement a monitoring and evaluation plan for IEC activities, tracking key performance indicators such as public awareness, knowledge retention, and behavior change.

Regularly assess the impact of IEC materials and outreach programs through surveys, focus groups, and feedback mechanisms.

Produce periodic reports on the effectiveness of IEC campaigns, identifying successes and areas for improvement.

7. Capacity Building & Training:

Organize and conduct training workshops for project staff, community leaders, and stakeholders on effective communication strategies and waste management topics.

Provide technical assistance in the development and delivery of IEC materials to local partners, ensuring consistent messaging across all communication channels.

8. Budgeting & Resource Management:

Develop and manage the IEC budget, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and in alignment with project goals.

Procure necessary materials, coordinate with suppliers, and manage logistics for outreach activities, events, and campaigns.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Background :

o A bachelor's degree (or higher) in Communications, Public Relations, Environmental Science, Social Science, or a related field. A Master's degree in Communication for Development (C4D) or Environmental Communication is a plus.

Experience :

o Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in designing and implementing communication strategies, preferably with a focus on environmental issues, waste management, or social development.

o Experience working in community outreach, behaviour change communication, and public awareness campaigns.

o Familiarity with social media platforms, digital communications, and multimedia production.

Skills :

o Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clear, concise, and compelling content for different audiences.

o Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including local communities, government officials, NGOs, and media.

o Knowledge of social behaviour change theory and practice, particularly in the context of environmental and waste management issues.

o Strong project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently.

o Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media management tools.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ?15,000.00 - ?16,000.00 per month
